I've only been around a C5D with the detroit. Tried it out, was a decent machine. Its not a whole lot different then a timberjack. Most parts can be bought at auto parts stores, alot cheaper to work on then other brands. The things I like about the timberjack over the Tree farmer was it is easier to get on and off. It is also a little easier to work on with everything being open. If you can get a good deal and know how to turn wrenches you'll do alright.

the c5d is a good machine alot of them around here and they r easy to work on and r usually dependable if it is in good shape it will raise ur production alot compared to ur tractor and llike mark said many parts are easily available at parts stores just like the timberjacks if u r able to swing it id take it how much r they asking for it and how many hours if u have more details on the machine it would help to let u know how good a deal it is good luck

the guy wants 6600 for it he just put four brand new firestone forestry tires and is in really good shape it has a 96 hp deutz motor and a brand new winch the guy said the same thing about the TJ as mark he said he would rather have a TJ than the farmer i could have got a TJ 230E as a package deal when i got my log truck that man only wanted 2000 for the TJ but i look in the radiator and it was white and milky looking so i didnt get it and i is still sitting in his yard to this day thank you guys so much for your help

Heck the tires are worth that, Mine had Firestones put on it just before I bought it. They where $1600.00 a piece. That was a while ago, who knows what they are now.

Sounds like a good deal. When I bought my 225 I paid around $8500 for it and it came with a set of ice pics along with new tires. How are the center and cradle pins, check and see how loose they are. If it has the locked axles in it, crab it hard and see if it jumps. I just replaced my no-spin in the front axle, it wasn't cheap.

sounds like a deal on the skidder.

a word of advice on the 110. watch the nuts the hold the main bearing. those had a tendancy to loosen when my dad ran one. also watch the top link at the knuckle. if it wears thin around the pins you could be in a bad situation when it breaks.

good luck man, im just a little older than you and had to give up loggin about a year ago. still looking for my opportunity to get back in the woods.

treefarmer87

yea im gonna go pick it up when all the snow melts a little around here the 110 hasnt really given me much trouble i broke the grapple where the cylinder connects at but welded it back i usually stay on top of checking bolts fittings and the maintenance i perfer my 110 over a new 210 with a cab or something similar im sorry you had to quit i hope u can start again

That is dirt cheap for that particular machine...
The engine is the best part of the deal. Powerful at very low RPMs, you can grab a high gear and idle back out to the woods. Saves a lot of fuel. Heck, you can run it @ 1/4 throttle all day pulling wood and it will never hessitate. It's the polar opposite of a detroit.
I'd buy it this very morning.

I boutht my c5 in 79 has been a great machine , still use it today, just don't expect it to be fast, if the winch is good it is strong   The firstone special would be around 2200.  I don't think you could go wrong with the c5

i think youd be crazy to pass this up. i love the c5 it is so simple to work on. and from what these guys say the duetz is a very good motor. i think the tranny is from a c60 chevy or something (available) and could be removed in minutes. there is an old c5b down the road from me , it has 4 bald tires, the motor is tore down and has been sitting outside (how long?). he has the parts to rebuild the motor and a new head to go with it. hes asking $3500 for it! he says he can scrap it for that price!lol. i wanted the machine badly, it is in great physical shape (little repairs) and i could get that detroit running easily enough. but im not the biggest detroit fan. i know they will run but i hate the unnecesary noise.  i ended up getting a running 440a deere for just a liitle more than that.

Man , it just occured to  me , my c5, I just put two new tires on the rear if I had known about the c5 your thinking about getting , I would have tried to get it,  could have had all new tires and a spare machine for parts if necessary. Anyway you can't go wrong with the c5, also very easy to work on.
