I don't know what methods they use to secure the house to the tree.
I can't imagine them using nails but they might.

  Kevin the tree houses if built right are secured with rubber compression rings, no nails needed. As the tree grows the ring expands and there's no strangling of the tree. 8)
  I've been reading up about tree houses for years as I want to build one and live in it. There's a few really cool ones out this way on the islands that people rent out.

  Kevin the compression rings are mostly homemade, some have metal bands like a plumber would use, kinda self adjusting.
  One would go above the house and one below the place and they counteract against each other. As the tree grows they expand and all the tree has to do is support the weight of the treehouse.
