Looked all over the net for service or shop manuals for my Timberjack 550.  I think it is a 1980.

Does anyone have ideas for where to track down manuals?

Another question:  is it a big job to change an axle seal (front right)

Thanks

I went to www.johndeeretechinfo.com and ordered the cd / repair manual for our 230D.  It paid for itself the first day.  Hope that helps.

There is no problem to change a front axle seal but I found a wheel end service manual for Eaton axles on the www.roadranger.com website.Go to the site and click on literature then punch in AXSM-0050 in the search box and it should get you to the service manual,it covers the WR3 up to WR12.Don't be suprised if it looks a little diffrent than yours the internal workings around the seal are the same. Those seals are usually trouble free, you may have a wheel bearing gone.

You know what?  You guys are awesome, and so is this forum... Thanks for your help!

Check torque on wheel bearing,it may be loose,if it is tighten and leak should stop.
Is this 550 a skidder or a forwarder?

It's a skidder, 1980 I think.  It has sat around a lot for the last 5 years or so.  I bought it a couple of years back, but have only played around on it as a hobby, it gets run every couple of months or so which may be tough on components,,,

MaineLogger

Wow!I would love to see a picture sometime. What does it have for power?653?

Does that have dual exhaust?
NH tc55da Metavic 4x4 trailer Stihl and Husky saws

bushmechanic

Yes it is a dual exhaust and that machine is powered by a 6V53 Detroit Diesel, double the power that is in a Timberjack 208D or a 230D skidder.

groundguy

Dual exhaust,, correct, and the winch is a Hyster with either 40000 or 50000 lbs pull strength

I'll get some more pics up soon
