Very, very nice work Jeff. The first one reminds me of a toadstool. I don't think you'd have trouble selling them and if you say that second one is a table, them by gummy it's a table.

God made these tables. I just sanded them and stood em up.

Jeff, like you idea about who made the materials. I do a little turning and carving, my wife asks how I get the ideas. My standard answer is " I just look and see what God put inside, and release it".

Drives her nuts.

Started this project this week. This big ol' white pine cookie had a seam in it. It rolls into the center of the heart. I am hoping this defect will keep this table from spliting. I would think that seem will act as a stress relief point and simply widedn more rather then break open some where else.

Any ideas on how to tackle the process of smoothing off all that end grain?

I thought of a story after you sayin "you just release it".
I grew up with Stan Herd, the land mural artist. He once did the Indian Santana on a quarter section. One of his uncles here is somwhat of a comedian and when another local asked how in the world did Stan know how to do that, the uncle said.............."Well, that's the easy part, he just goes out there and mows everything that doesn't look like an Indian."

I saw that one down with Wanda. I started putting on just 3 legs. Ya dont need a bandmill to get them to set level that way. ;D

Here's my slab table, a tad large fer in front of the couch though. she's a 10 footer ;)

except fer the middle pieces on the table top all the other parts have at least one live edge.

I have almost completed the table in post 30. I used a woodburned to burn in thelines for the checker board and now am using different layers and colors of stain to finish it up. It may recieve a glass top so you can actually play on it. THe seam in it would make it difficult for checkers or chess without it.
