My Wife found a cell phone in Wal-mart and thinking she had dropped hers, picked it up.  When she got to the car she realized that hers was in the car and, besides that, this was one of those Re-a-lly expensive ones.   She came home and told me about it.  "I could just keep it", she said, not meaning it.   She was finally able to raise the owner a coupls of days later.  It was a lady from Miami who had stopped at the store while passing through. Gael Fed X'd the phone to her.

Guess what happened today?  Gael received a really pretty flower arrangement in a crystal pitcher with a floating balloon attached and a very nice note tied to the string.  She also received a "Big" box of Whitman Sampler.  Being on a diet, she placed it next to the computer.  I'm not on a diet, I guess. :D   Man, those cherry cordials are good. ;D

The flowers nor the chocolates were expected and Gael is beaming.  I think more for the thought than the presents. :)

Tom, I'm sure the woman was just as surprised that someone thought enough to contact her about her phone...I'm always surprised by the kindness of strangers (but don't rely on it  ;) ).

This summer I went to Ocean City, Maryland with my friends.  It was a long ride down, and I hate having my wallet in my pocket for long periods when I'm sitting down, so I put it in a little bag I was carrying some things in.  After I got up to the condo with my bags, I looked where my wallet should've been, and it wasn't there....and it had all of my spending money in it...$700 cash  :o   I was freaking out, and I hurried back towards the car to look and see where it fell out.  On my way down the stairs I ran into my friend who had it in his hand.  Turns out some man stopped him and showed him my ID and asked him if he knew me...so he gave my friend my wallet with all my cash still in there.  That would've been one lousy vacation if it were'nt for that kind man...too bad I didn't get to thank him personally.

:) Reminds me of my first trip to Lost Vegas. I got sent out there for a bidness meeting that lasted 3 days. I was doing the Lost Vegas thang, big time. Couldn't pass a slot machine without putting something in it. I was like FDH on a gold creek! :D  Anyway, I was in a seedy little casino off Fremont Street, doin' my thang, when this "down-in-the-heels" looking black kid, about 18, touched me on the shoulder. "Excuse me, Sir," said he, "You dropped this."  He was holding a $20 bill out to me.  I was shocked plum outta my britches. Here was I, in a place where everybody is trying to get something for nothing, and I run into something like this! :o
The incident went a long way toward restoring my faith in humanity. :)

A few years back Kathy found an address book on the ground ina parking lot.  She called the guy and he was so relieved he said he was a salesman and that book was his whole business life.  We arranged to meet him at a local watering hole and he picked up the tab and gave us a bottle of liquor that I think was called towaka a brandy that you warm up a little in the microwave.  Faith in humanity 8)

My wife found a envelope with $300 in the parking lot at McDonald's. She took it to the police station and told them if no one claimed it she wouldn't mind having it. A couple days later we got home and there was an envelope in the door with $50 bucks and a thank you note. The people said they lost it twice that day and got it back both times 8)

About 8 or 9 years ago, I was in Seattle at Sea-Tac using two pay phones at the same time (can be done sometimes if dividers aren't too big) and after putting out a half dozen work fires in about 20 minutes I walked off leaving my day-timer with my training schedule and my next 20 some odd tickets for my next 30 days of flying.  Also had my checkbook and about $50 in it.  Called Lost and Found the next morning (10pm by the time I noticed it missing), and someone had turned it in minutes after I had left it.  All there.  No name was left for me to thank, but what could have been sheer disaster turned out making me feel really good about the world.

We all need that now and then.  It usually feels better to be the finder though.  Found a guys checkbook with 2 credit cards, ATM card, and $200 cash at the hardware store.  I beat him home and was waiting for him with it just as he realized he didn't have it.  Handed it over and drove off...he had a strange look on his face...I just smiled.
