Looks like a little hopper...

Maybe you use a 2lt drink bottle, cut the top and bottom off it, then clip it into that grey clip at the top of the red bit? And the stuff flows out the sock-y thing?

fishpharmer

Its some kind of funnel thingy to scoop the dried milk replacer  out of the plastic container under it.  Then you can funnel the dry powder into the bottle neck so it doesn't spill all over the durn place.  This is all so you can mix with warm water to feed a bottle calf.

If that's not the right answer someone needs to make what I just described anyway.  Maybe I will ;D

Or it could be for scooping and funneling some other product.

Okay its a contraption to hold hay in a rabbit cage.  It clips on the side you put a miniature hay bale in it so the rabbits to pull down out of the hole in the bottom.

If that's not it.....maybe its a clip to hold female rabbits for breeding, or male rabbits for "fixing".

I don't know , how they do it now. I have been away from the farm
to long.
As far as the 1955 date my guess is that is when the box was made, but thought that it was in good shape to be so old.

Saw this on display at a farm toy show we went to yesterday.
The gentleman that had it on display was having a lotta fun with it, getting people to guess what it was. He said that he had a few oldtimers come thru that knew exactly what it was. Many others didn't have a clue.

When we asked him how much he wanted for it, he said not for sale.
O well still got to have fun with it, he let me take these pictures to use.

DanG, nothing gets past you.  I was thinking more along the lines of AI for show rabbits.  And that may not exist.  I know for cattle the females are restrained while being ......er  AI'd ;) .    But before that happens, a happy bull is fooled into being a donor.  So I was figurin it could be a donor buck ( I think that's a daddy bunny) could be held in such a contraption while being fooled into being a donor.  I said male rabbit for breeding not for being bred ;D

Really, that where that came from 8)

I had no clue what that thing was and I have castrated thousands of little pigs. I had a pig holder for the deed, but I don't think I could describe it so anyone would understand.  I could do about ten pigs a minute if someone was handing me the pigs.

I never had anyone to hold the pig, that was what the pig holder was for. One end of the holder had a tapered area to hold the head and the back legs were held by a slide bar that I held with my leg. I did have help sometimes to catch the pigs and give vacination shots. I would get a picture of my holder, but I think I gave it away when I quit the business. If I had to do everything, then I could only do about 4 or 5 pigs a minute.

Here is the one I recall seeing.

Pig Holder

I guess pigman will have to tell how it is used but I know you put the back legs over one loop and under the other.
Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

pigman

Gary, you will have to explain that holder to me. :-\

The holder I had was  made by me out of 1/2" steel rod and two short pieces of pipe. I coppied it from a commercial verson I saw at a equipment show. I was poor at the time and just went home and made one in about an hour  and saved the $40 cost. I tried to find one on the internet like the one I made, but with no luck. The company probably quit making them since most people, like me,  just copied the design and made their own.

And can remember the dairy farmer smell too, 'specially after he had been throwing down silage and milking. Then he shows up in the grocery store or the local hardware store.   Hafta admit I didn't mind either of the two smells.  ;D

But it was some years after I left home that I understood why my mother made me leave my clothes in the garage when coming home from the farm up the road where I worked.
