I found some old roughsawn oak planks in our shed.  Some are 14" and 16" wide with not much splitting or warping.  I don't  actually own them but I'm curious as to what colors I'm going to see if I have them milled.  Will they be able to be stained to any color I want.  They are that old grey right now.

The natural color should come back after planing unless they have stains in them. Also you should be able to finish stain them. Take a sharp knife and cut a small sliver off the end corner that should give you an idea of the internal color. By the way I would get permission from the owner before proceeding.

Also look for many small piles of sawdust between them. Powder post beetles are hard to get rid of.
