Just got back from having dinner with the one and only Jim Rogers.

While I'm traveling for the government, got to teach a class tomorrow at the VA in Bedford, I contacted Jim to see if I could buy him dinner.  The food at Chilis was OK, the company is OUTSTANDING.

Jim - Thanks for the company and conversation!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I can't make it.  I will be in Houston teaching the same class to the VA South Central Region.  Take my word for it.  I would love to be there, but the scheduling is all wrong.

Bruce:
Here is a picture of the knife I was telling you about:

I should put a quarter or a dollar bill in the picture so you can see how small or large this knife is......

Hi Jim, speaking of race knifes, if you unfold it and look at the knob near the hinge, is it possible to file the knob down to allow the blade to close more?

Thanks Tim....

Tim has purchased one of these fine knives and has improved it's performance....

Well I haven't yet but I did notice in your picture that the knife edge was set deeper into it's pocket than mine.  So is it kosher to file the knob down and have the blade close more?  It sounds like a yes.

what is the purpose of that fancy knife?

Stonebroke

Jim_Rogers

To mark id numbers or letters onto timbers.
I has a curved blade so as you drag it across the timber it cuts a "v" into the timber making your numbers.
Easier and faster then doing it with a chisel.

I'll have to do a demo picture or a Youtube video showing how to use it.

Thanks for asking....

I finally got to meet Jim.  Just as nice and helpful a guy in person and great conversation.  I finally got to see his "store" in person.  Chisels, planes, boring bits, sheaths, race knives, brace bits, , draw knives, strops, You name it.  He also had some newly made/reproduced Millers Falls boring machine wood bases - Niiiccee!
Anything someone can design, I can sure figure out how to fix!
If I say it\\\\\\\'s going to take so long, multiply that by at least 3!
