thats a common thing as most loggers have less than par standards on there trucks and pop the binder and the logs break them off some manage to get out of the way some dont .. most small time loggers have pipes with smaller pipes in them for easy removal.. for bulldozer  transport and thats a accident waiting to happen ////

Nobody was there to help the old guy with the logs? I understand working alone, or at least with a large safety radius but...Isn't unloading a truck at least a 2 man operation?

Sad man, he was a veteran too. You would think 20 years experience would keep you safe...it's becoming apparent that that's just not the case.

thats when the worse mistakes happen you get cocky and as for him being alone he prolly left the boys in the woods cutting and took the logs to market...most mills and log yards wont allow you out of your truck and some wont allow there employees to help with un-binding
