The hummers are really passing through here on their South migration.  Sometimes 15 or more buzzing around at the same time.  We're having to fill the feeder 4 times daily.

The neighbor's cat wanted lunch, but went home hungry.... :D

We have the Ruby Throated humming birds here, but we haven't seen one in almost 3 weeks, so we figured that they were headed south!

Hey Magic, take some pics of your place and post. To us it almost like visiting. Looks like a nice deck and landscaping. I have lots of hummers too right now.

We still have some here but not as many as when everything is in full bloom.

Last summer we had a coopers hawk that hunted our yard, the hummers would give chase whenever they saw him. :D

They must be coming through FL, too. I saw one the other day- the first I've seen in 29 years in FL.
I hope my ship comes in before the dock rots!

We have 20 or 30 visiting right now. I'll get some pictures up later. I set the camera up for about an hour and took close to a hundred shot. Got a few good ones too. ;)

The last ones I seen was 2 weeks ago when in the bush marking out work strip lines. The darn things like my orange-red hard hat. Sometimes I have to wave an arm at them to get them to fly away. Those feeders have made them foolish. :D

Here are several of my shots of the hummingbirds.

I had the camera set too close to get a large quantity of birds all at once. I do have some blurred shots of several birds at a time though.

Magicman you have an amazing amount of Hummers, neat pictures.  Awesome buck too.  Are you involved in a big buck management program or just lucky :D?

Terry, awesome pictures as well.  Super detail, looks professional ;D

Clarify for me.  The males are the ruby throated specimens, females not?

i had to fill my feeder every day all summer. but most of them seem to be gone. there would be 8-10 trying to feed at the same time. they would sometimes fight over the feeder and again 2-3 would feed at once then fight some more.

Family only and I limit everyone, including myself, to 1 buck per year.  That way the lesser bucks can grow.  If he's not big enough to mount, then why shoot it?  You can eat does...... ;D

I think not.  I think the ruby throated is a different species.

Males have the ruby throat and females don't. We only have one species of hummer up here in New Brunswick and that's the way the sexes are ID'ed.

I aint of that thought , I find they look good on the wall and are even better in my plate . I prefer by far having venison to beef. Beautiful or not , it is much better to be shot and killed then to be eaten alive by predetors .  ;) ;)

I've no problem with killing animals. I enjoy the hunt, and the persuit of a large rack.

Especially enjoy the meat, and like Marcel, enjoy it better than beef.

In WI we are over-run with white-tails. They re-produce very fast and continue to be beautiful. Especially those fawns.

But each to their own opinions. If some don't like to hunt or kill, then they shouldn't do it.

(Sorry, now back to Hummers. Ours have gone south so the rest of you can enjoy them down there)

So its okay to kill the ugly ones like wild hogs? ;)

I don't think I could eat hummingbirds.  I am sure it would take to many and be a tough to pluck. :D :D :D
They oughta taste sweet  ;)

The Hummers are back.  Only about 1/2 dozen right now, but they are really zooming in.  In a couple of weeks, there should be dozens at the time.

They are still here, and in the deep woods. The buzzards are attracted to my red hard hat and dive on me quite a few times when I emerge from the thickets and walk road edge while marking thinning boundary.  Crazy bird brains. I need to get a video camera. ::) :D :D
