I purchased a 358xp in March of this year.  I was using a Husky 455 rancher but when needed some parts that were not immediately available, I purchased the 357. Now I have the two saws and in comparison, the 357 is lighter and has more power than the 455 Rancher. I am well pleased with it.

For a saw that is only 56.5cc its pretty amazing to run  8). The prices have went through the roof on them though, over $600  I hear  :o.  I got mine when they were $499 new.

I dont like the chain adjuster set up though on 357xp. Wish it were more like the 372 set up.

I bought a 357XP used about a year ago. I'm happy with it. Nicely made, and nice power to weight (though as others have noted, elsewhere here on the Forestry Forum, I think Husky is a bit optimistic on their weight spec - have not weighed mine, though).

Last I checked from the local dealers, a new one with bar and chain was $660. If I were buying new, the price probably would have driven me to a 359.

I have a 1997 257 which has been a very good saw.  Back in June I looked at the 357xp which was running around $525.00  last week I looked at it again and the quoted price was $665.00 with a 16" bar.  I stopped at another saw shop 20 miles away and asked about the same saw and was quoted a price of $625.00.  I was told the price of saws went up in July.

If the 357xp is anything like the 257 I have then it will be a great saw.  I purchased a Dolmar 5100 last year for just under $400.00 and have found it to be a very good saw.
