Jeff wasn't you talking bout Paul's thumbnail in the pic where he's holding the tag??? It looks like a hammer munched his thumb.

    Steve

Larry

The black thumb doesn't have anything to do with the Dis old house thread does it?

" Mark shingles are easy to lay if ya know what your doing.  Hand nail them and they will last forever aslong as you step up to the plate and buy the good ones." ;D ;D

Don't know how to use that grey thing either. ???

   Steve

Paul_H

You are 100% right Jeff.It was a rusty old Eastwing and the thumb was hit many times in the same place.

Why does that happen? ::)

Pss-ss-s-t!  Wanna hear a secret?

If you hold your hand knuckles down and the nail between  your index finger and middle finger (like smokers do a cigarette), it doesn't hurt so much if you miss.  ;D

biziedizie

I use an air powered spiker and I never hit my thumb. :D

Trying to remember if I've ever hit my finger with a hammer ::)

Hmmmm me don't think that I have. 8)

Seen another guy bash his finger and all it did was make me laff. :D :D

    Steve

OneWithWood

No wonder you guys are nailing your fingers - you all are using the wrong hammer.  Get an Estwing to replace your Eastwings and mebbe you'll have better luck.

Shot a 16d naill through my index finger this summer while working on the barn.  Then when my brother was here from Seattle we were building a small garden shed for our mother. Big brother is nailing trim onto the corners of the building and I'm working on the doors. He bangs the gun against the corner of the shed, but only catches the very edge and I catch a 6d nail right below the adams apple. went in about a 1/4 inch, good thing I was about 3 feet away from him.  >:(

Shopteacher....maybe.....just maybe ya might wanna not play with them air nailers. ;)

I've seen some pretty bad accidents with spikers, most people have no idea as to how much damage them things can do.
I always shake my head when I see construction guys with hard hats on and a spiker in their hands but no saftey glasses on. ::)
I bought a new pair this morning as I was jack hammering most of the day and with all the little chunks od concrete I chucked them at the end of the day.

     Steve

shopteacher

Your probably right Biz, but I just love the way they BANG when you pull that trigger. 8)  I have 5 different guns and have gone through many, many, many cartons of nails, so what a little thing like a nail through the finger once in awhile anyway. :D :D :D

I can't count how many coils of nails I've been through and so far no accidents. :) Came close a few times but so far I've been lucky. 8)
The biggest thing that I've found is to keep your fingers about 8" away from the gun while you hold the wood. Also try to avoid blasting a nail close to a knot. Seen a buddy do that and the nail hit the knot and it came back at him and got his thumb. :o
At the time it wasn't funny but now that I think of it I gotta laff. :D :D

   Steve

Frank_Pender

Hey ya Bibby, you got the idea.  I learned that when I was a youngen.  I use to get my younger sister to hold the nail for me.  :D

ANYWAYS ;D  Besides Whitepe and his nice comment does anyone else like my biz card??? ;D ;D Input guys, input. ;)

Btw Estwing makes a great hammer and I own the fi-b-glass ones. :) They don't bounce very good off glass windows but that's another story. :o

Biz, that's the worst DanG business card I've ever seen It's uglier than my profile dog, poor butch.
. You must be using a blind printer or something. Poor layout, terrible colors and what the H#ll is a Tamarack anyway?  When I was in the service the tar mack was where the planes landed? What's planes and runways got to do with milling?  Boy you'd have to tie a fifty dollar bill to it for me to accept it. :D

Now truthfully I think it looks great and hope it bring the customers by the whack load.

Shopteacher you shocked me with you reply :o ;) :D :D

Tamarack is a tree as we all know but the word comes from the Indian language and it means "the dead tree in the cold pond" I got the name from my best buddy Deanna who's Native.

Start a week of jury duty today.  Never had it before and not really looking forward to it. :(

Shopteacher,

If your jury duty is anything like mine was you will find it a very rewarding experience.  The case I sat for was a civil case with four litigants and five lawyers.  I found it very interesting to see their arguments unfold.  It is easy to tell who did their homework and who didn't.  In the end the jury gets to sort it all out and do the right thing.  Goodluck.  :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

Well, today I got to sit in a room made for about 50 people, except there were 120 jurors jammed in it. There weren't even enough chairs for everyone to sit down.  The chairs that were there were pushed up as tight against one another as possible and you had to sit with your shoulders pushed forward.  Sat there till quarter past 12 and finally got to go to lunch. Came back and sat for another 45 min. and was told the case had been settled and we could leave for the day.
They are so backlogged a retired judge has been brought in to help hear cases. We have a call in system to let us know which jurors have to report tomorrow.  An experience it is, although today was long, hot and boring.

Larry

Years ago when called for jury duty in our county you were on it for 3 weeks.  Showed up every day and sat on your butt for half the day unless you were picked for a jury.  Got rid of some of those old judges and the new ones have really worked on the jury selection process.

With our new system you get called every year to three years.  Show up one day and your either picked for a jury or your home by 10am and done for the year.  The new judges put in nice seating, big screen TV, and free coffee and donuts every morning.  They also increased the pay as much as they could.  The judges say this way is a lot cheaper and most of us don't mind jury duty at all.  It's amazing what a little thinking can do.
