Looking for a saw to cut firewood for my personal use. About 4 cords of oak per year. Is the extra power of the 455 Ranceher worth the extra weight over the 450?

Only my opinion, the 357xp or 359 would be a better performer. More weight but also more HP. The 400 series is just a home-owner type saw and the 300 series is more pro type saw (longer lasting).

I would love a pro saw but in my case it might be a waste of money. I home owner saw has a life of what? 500 hours? I cut firewood once a year in the fall. I use my saw for 5 - 10 hours max. That home owner saw will last me 50 years before it wears out.

The 359 goes for about $520 with bar and chain. What is a 450 or 455 going for these days?

Not knowing your situation, ie what you have for land, if you'll be cutting more wood in the future etc. Yes, buy the cheapest good brand saw (husky, Jonsered, stihl) you can find. Make sure you take good care of it and yes it will last you a long time.
