Have a  nice little Homelite 240 with a mysterious oil leak.   Seems to leak out near the top of the saw somewhere, vicinity of air filter area.    Does it after use while sitting idle.  Big pools of oil coming out.  Any ideas how to fix?    Thanks.

No mystery here, it's a homelite, of course it leaks, they are made in China ya know, I thought everyone knew that. :D

If this is one of the cheaper saws, It might not have an oil pump.
The oil tank is pressurized from the crankcase through a non-return valve.
If the saw is shut off when the piston is on its downward stroke, pressure is transferred even after the engine stops.
So the oil keeps flowing for some time.
But if I remember correctly, there is also a pressure release valve or opening from the oil tank to prevent this(oil flow after engine is off) from happening.
Could be that this valve is blocked with saw dust.

The 240 has an automatic pump, works off the crankcase pulse and distributes oil through a diaphragm and plunger system.
The diaphragm or O ring could be leaking or maybe one of the lines is leaking.
