How long will it take red oak to dry in a solar kiln this time of year (in PA). It is all 4/4?
Thanks.

Awwwww....come on...someone's gotta have a guestimate?
Thanks.

Tom

I vaguely remember Woodmizer's numbers several years ago for a solar kiln were 12 weeks for 4/4 red oak.    I think.   Maybe.

I've got old ads around here somewhere with those figures in them. ???

From everthing that I have read it should take six to eight weeks. The max rate of moisture loss per day should be 3.8 percent . I will be putting my first load of oak in latter this summer  Carl

A lot is going to depend on how wet the wood is when you put it in and also on how many sunny days you have.

I bet if you called WM and gave them the starting MC they could give you a pretty good estimate.

In my neck of the woods if I loaded green RO in my homemade solar kiln today it would be dry about the last of October (maybe).
