Portable, custom sawmilling is one of the most difficult jobs to schedule. It never fails that more logs show up, usually from neighboring farmers.  I've been in places where I almost had to sneak away. :D

Chuck White

I know what you mean Tom.

Last year and the year before, we were sawing for this same guy (who happened to be a farmer) and many a morning when we'd show up to start sawing, we had more logs than we did when we left, the night before!

We went into this job to saw 3,500-4,000 bf and when we were done, the first year we sawed just over 10,000 and then last year we were called to saw "around" 4,000 bf and as it ended up, we sawed almost 15,000 bf.

We don't really mind this type of situation, but it does make scheduleing a little more difficult.

The best part will come when you get done and paid.  Then you just drive off and leave the mess.  8)  8)  8)  8)  I really miss traveling.

  Thanks for the comments fellas,

I'll pass on the snow for now, thanks anyhow. :D  :D  :D

All this sawing is being done for the same customer, I guess he
wants to keep us busy while we are there.
When dad looked at the job earlier on, he figured we had 3 days sawing.
Today was day 3, and we figure we have 2 days left.
We have one of the large oaks to saw up in the morning, then we relocate to the bottom of the hill where we have about 24 logs or so to saw up as of right now. But they will be a little nicer sawing, cherry and walnut.

Sawman that sure looks like a nice job.  How many bf did it end up totaling??

Zac and I just finished up a 1400bf run this morning and it was the UGLYEST lumber you ever saw.  1400bf of red oak knots.  I'd a made fire wood out of it but the customer was happy.

That's exactly what dad said about some of these logs.  :)  :)

But like you said the customer was happy, and thats what it's all about.

Wow!  Look at the size of those logs in the background on the other side of the truck. :D

kelLOGg

Those are haylogs - not very good lumber - won't hold nails or screws - can't build anything from it. In fact, its so bad my father-in-law would feed it to his cows . ;D

Just talked to dad, and he finished job up this morning.
Grand bd/ft total for this job was 4200.

Customer was happy with the final product on our end.
He said he was going to build a garage with some of it.
