IMO...short sighted fools...greener the city down the line, the more work for the tree guys..

What they ought to be doing is angling for a little consultancy action there..might make a couple $$ now, that could turn into alot down the road..

I agree.  With only 50 forestry types I would think they could use all the help they could get.
I remember when all the side streets in Detroit where shaded by big elms.  The city was really beautiful back then, pre-1965.

And there you see, in my opinion, what has sent Michigan into the toilet, economically.  There was once a sense of community in the United States.  The Unions have ruined it.

Warbird

While the Unions have done a lot of good, I agree with you, Tom.  And that's all I'll say about that, cause I don't want Jeff to yell at me.  :)

was pretty much gonna say that... but I hate political discussion on the forums..

I worry about this country...where there used to be a sense of community, and responsibility to something greater than oneself, has been replaced by greed, commercialism, sensationalism and mistrust....sucks, but there it is..

I need to carve my little coener of woods out and hunker down..<G>

I'm impressed with the sense of community shown by the group getting the volunteers together in Detroit to plant trees.

Not surprised that there are those in the bureaucracy with the union who see it as taking their jobs away. They've been trained to sit and get paid, and use their clout to let others know that no one can do their job for them.

But I do see the sense of some pride in the community poking its head up in Detroit.  ;D ;D
I hope they win in their effort.  ;D

Warbird

I was and continually am surprised by the sense of community right here in the Forestry Forum.  :)

Well, thanks, Warbird, but I am not as friendly as I seem..  8)

most unions had rather see the whole country shut down if they can not get thier way. >:(

I was just wondering why those union guys were all upset. Are they sitting around a conference table and doing nothing but working out the logistics of who is to do the physical labour and finding out they are getting nowhere because no one wants to carry a shovel? I bet they are still drawing a pay cheque, so maybe the volunteers are a threat to their job security. Meanwhile, after waiting for several weeks to pass while they pass the ball back and forth in the union office, the city has some volunteers ready to get the job done. We can draw all kinds of inferences I guess because often only one half of the story is reported depending on whose side your on.

The point of contention is so stupid it is kind of hard to comment on it.
