I have a Carlton hand held saw chain grinder with a built in rechargeable battery.
Recently, I found it extremely useful for an entirely different purpose.
My son dropped one of my music cds onto the ground. It suffered some really bad scratches. It wouldn't play any longer.
This was one of my favorite  cds for which  I could not get a replacement that easily.(Gordon Light foot's Gord's Gold).
Well desperate situations call for  extreme measures.
I used a bit of soft cloth and a rubber band to convert the  saw chain grinder into a buffing machine.
I tested it on an old unwanted cd and got the knack of using it to remove the scratches.

I said a silent prayer and tried it on Gordon Lightfoot.
The results were short of a miracle. The cd now plays without any problem.

I am now using the grinder on all my other scratched  cds and dvds.
Liquid soap on the cloth removes fine scratches and is best for the final touch.
Toothpaste  or auto polish(not wax) is good for deep scratches.

If there are any music lovers here I hope this post is useful.
