How would beech lumber hold up as trailer decking
would red oak be A better choice for decking
I`d pefer white oak but there is not much of that in my area

Don't know about the beech really, but red oak is NOT a good choice.

Lenny, red oak is NOT a good exterior wood. Cut a red oak board and then look at the endgrain. You will see a lot of little holes. Those little holes run up through the board like straws. They will suck water right up into the wood.  Take a piece of red oak, put it in a glass of water and stick a vacuum on the other end and watch what happens.  White Oak, or Southern Yellow Pine would work.

We've got a beech deck on an equipment trailer.  It's been on there for about ten years and has held up good.  We replaced one plank a couple years ago.  It's had used oil mopped on a couple times to waterproof it.
