common sizes of rough cut lumber for farm use

 8)     if you were going to saw up some lumber for farm use barn repair fence building and etc what would be the most sizes in demand  :) :) 8)

2x6's, 1x6's and 1x8's

A few 2x10's or 2x12's.

single most popular size here would be 2x6. Mostly for fences and corrals, 3" bull rails occasionally.

90% of the oak "farm lumber" we sell is 2x6 and 1x6s.  We saw the lumber full 6" wide.  The 1" stuff is full 1".  The 2" stuff we saw 1-5/8".  About everything else is something cut to order and you never know.

Down here in Pendleton County, the most common sizes of farm lumber I get requests for are:

> 1x6" oak and 1x6" poplar by 16 ft for fence boards
> 1x8", 1x10" and 1x12" poplar by 12 and 16 ft for barn siding

I do get requests for 2" stock.  But I generally saw to order on the 2"...

I agree with the nominal sizes, I cut my 1bys at 1" and my 2bys at 1.75". the 6",8,10, 12 etc at 1/4" under. This is unless I get a special request.
