Last night, during a computer virus scan, I noticed MANY file names or titles, with $$ in them. What are these files ???  Are they NOT needed in a computer registry ???

If they are NOT needed, HOW does one find them, and delete them ???

Example C://winnt.$file name and description$.exe   or some such  ???

Typically the $ makes it a hidden folder. Enable viewing of hidden folders and they will show up. Deleting the folder will make them all go away. And everything else for that matter... ;)

For the dis-believers. A sample of what I'm getting.

Also, today, I keep getting a Netscape window, and then it closes the Firefox Browser ???

Thats not a file title.

Those are likely in your windows installation folder and contain key registry info for windows components and updates.

Finally got to talk with my Computer Guru. He says MOST can be deleted, IF you know what you are looking at. Can't remember what he said the real ones were, though. Anybody got a fresh healthy working brain for sale  ::) ::) ::) :( :( :(

FDH: Download THIS and run it.  After it runs, be sure to click on the Registry icon on the left and run that cleaner, as well.  Take the option to backup your reg file after clicking run.

Also make sure you are running an updated virus scanner.  AVG has a great free client that I highly recommend.
