Gasoline is projected to hit $10.00 a gallon by years end.

Venezuela and another big oil producing country threaten to reduce production.
All truth passes through three stages:
   First, it is ridiculed;
Second, it is violently opposed; and
Third, it is accepted as self-evident.

If they say it will, it will.   The price is pre manufactured anyway.  These guys meet in a dark little room, smoke cigars beneath a lampless electric light bulb and say to one another, "what do you reckon we can get away with tomorrow?"  >:(

Modat22

If it gets too much higher I'll be planting sweet potatoes and making my own shine erm car fuel.
remember man that thy are dust.

Sweet tater shine huh. Does it burn going down, I mean does it burn well?

I've seen it powering a lawnmower and its driver once. I'm not sure if shine is safe for most cars on the road though.

If big oil and politicians don't quit screwing around with the people regarding these fuel prices, either this country will fall or people may begin to riot. I have a 30 mile drive to work, all highway. At 22 mpg, thats about $30.00 just to get to and from work. Then if Obama gets in office, there goes another tax increase, wind fall profit on oil companies(which means more expensive oil, since that cost will be passed on to consumer). WOW!! , future really looks bright. I have a feeling News TV is gonna be real entertaining for next couple years.

Toolman, I got news for you.  No matter who gets elected taxes are going to go up.  It is just a matter of which taxes and by how much.
We will all be thinner this time next year  :D

I talked to a fellow doing some work for the college where I work and he stated that he talked to or knew a person in Holland that told him gas was $18.00 dollars a gallon there. Sorry for the bad news. Splitter

Lost in the cries on how much gas has gone up is the fact that one of the reasons it has gone up is because of the weakening dollar.  Prices in Europe haven't been effected all that much largely because the pound and the Euro are much stronger than the dollar.

You want cheaper gas?  Support policies which will strengthen the dollar.  Stronger dollars buy more in the world market.  This means cheaper oil.

Or we could....mind you this is just an idea.....we COULD junk all of our gas guzzling SUVs and start buying cars that get 30-40mpg (or hybrids that get much more).  When it comes down to it, with the exception of people who need large vehicles to tow heavy loads, there isn't really a NEED for the large vehicles that Americans seem to love so much.

Toolman

There is guy who lives near me who is a food supply company salesman who lives in a housing development and drives a Hummer. I was at our local gas station and overheard him complaining about high fuel prices. I had to bite my tongue. This guy you can tell is feeding his ego with a vehicle like this. This vehicle has never and never will see off road use.

I've been saying that for a long time abot the dollar.  I wonder why we can't import or make those highly efficient diesels they have in Europe?
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

We could, the EPA won't allow it. Government interference is the root of all failures.

Oh...something tells me that if the lobbyists started talking about the need for the big 3 to be able to sell diesels, the law would change in no time flat.  The current administration (and the last one for that matter) has had no problems bowing to lobbyist pressure.

Blaming the govt. is a cop-out here.  The laws on the books were put there 25 or 30 years ago when it made sense to do so.  That nobody has tried to get them changed is hardly the fault of "the government" considering how things are run in Washington.

The second GM and Ford get that ball rolling, diesels will be mass produced in a town near you.  But until they do so, they will wring their hands and say, "it isn't OUR fault," and sadly, people will believe them.

I don't think the Federal Government really wants a more fuel efficient vehicle. You have to remember that there is a lot of revenue brought in from the road tax and the oil industry as a whole.

Comparing our fuel prices with Europe is like comparing apples and oranges. Those countries are socialist. Those high prices include lots of taxes that support their socialist programs. That's not including their ridiculously high income taxes.

Wait till you have to replace batteries in the hybrids after a few years. Also they are running harder rubber tires on them which helps get better gas mileage. Special tires cost, so do batteries, are they the answer?  Splitter

Tom

Quoteare they the answer?

It depends on the goal.  Saving fuel might be one, hoping to save money may be another, but many of the new solutions, provided before they are really economically feasible, depend on people with the money and the goal is more toward image.   All of these reasons are valid.
