I would like to try my hand at making maple syrup next year and have been mulling over my options for boiling the sap. I saw this evaporator and really like the idea, so I'd like to plagiarize make something similar to it. ;D It uses a heating fuel oil tank with the door and flue from a barrel stove kit. Seems pretty straight forward and fairly easy to copy. Still, no need to re-invent the thing if plans exist somewhere. Has anybody seen plans for this? I realize the most likely people to have knowledge of this are too busy boiling sap of their own to see this request. :D

Brad, I'd sugest trying this site http://mapletrader.com/community/   Like this site is for sawdust, that one's for maple syrup.  You can get some good advise & tips there.  That evap. looks like quite a project, one thing I can't see is if it has cast iron grates & a draft door below them?  Most work that way, you get the httest fires drawing up through them.
