Bought a Logosol to saw some framing lumber for my house.
It will come from SYP, about 10 to 18 inches diameter.
Hope to get 2x10's, 2x6's and 2x4's.

Should I saw the lumber parallel to the bark or parallel to the pith ? (and why ?)

Thanks,
Jim

Parallel to the bark will give you grain that is straight with the face of your dimension lumber. That will give you more strength in the pieces.

Take the log taper out of the center pith area where the juvenile core is, as well as the lower strength wood.

That is a simple answer. There are more decisions involved, but you can handle those as they come up.  :) :)

Technically Beenthere is correct, but in practical terms do you want to be making taper adjustment cuts with a Logosol?

If your logs are low in taper, I'd be inclined to saw parallel to the pith.  Reduction in strength is marginal in slow tapered grain.  Now, swollen butts is a whole different kettle of fish!!!
