If you get bored with your day job - Play with lightning for fun and profit

This is a show put on by a couple of guys at the music festival we were at yesterday.

Basically they put on stainless mesh faraday suits and jump up on big plastic platforms that are charged up to some crazy voltage. They are holding neon tubes that are glowing from the static voltage discharges and pulling these huge 8 ft arcs from them.

Very cool  8)

I would guess those tubes don't need a return to ground to operate the gas.

rf from a radio transmitter can light a florecent bulb. if you have a two way radio on your truck even a cb radio key the transmitter and hold a florecen bulb close to the antenna and it will light up like it was in a socket.

I was googling Tesla coils with my nephew while on vacation. There's some pretty cool youtube videos. One I remember was lighting up his whole backyard. I don't know how you explain things to the insurance agent  :D.

At one point in his experiments Tesla cooked the generators in the nearby town and blacked them out. He had to wire his friend George Westinghouse and order a trainfull of parts expressed out to Colorado  :o. Be careful if you try this at home  :D
