I don't think I have ever had steak for breakfast although a lot of people do. I save it for supper. Doctor says I should not eat eggs, sumpin 'bout cholesterol, but what does he know? Fried, over easy with sausage or bacon, home made hash browns and onions, toast and a gallon of coffee. 8)

Norm made us a good breakfast this morning since we would be working all day. We had egg sandwiches. The eggs were fried over easy and then laid on leaves of lettuce. You guys have convinced us that breakfast is a good thing, so we have been consciously trying to eat something every morning around 10:00. I have also added fresh fruit to my daily input.

I am now just so DanG healthy !  8)

sawguy, steak and eggs is my favorate meal.Really sticks to your ribs.Eggs as long as they are runny or a omlete with all such of stuff in it,toast, and a big gob of jelly on the side and some steak. Now that's worth getting up in the morning for.I like to work a bit first, than come in and eat.If no steak I have sauage or bacon. We have a few chickens so the eggs are that much better.Thick slab bacon really adds alot too.

Steak and eggs are great. I like grilled pork chops and eggs too, and they don't really need to be for breakfast either. I eat breakfast for supper all the time.

I like breakfast sandwiches, but decided long ago DD wasn't deserving of my money. I have been making my own lately. Cook a couple of eggs in a pan, add some sliced ham in after you turn the eggs, and melt some swiss or cheddar on top. I either taost some homemade bread, or a good hardroll. Mmmm good!

Patty: that sounds good, but i would think eggs over easy on a sandwich would be a little messy :-\

Not if you use a soft bread that can soak it up.  :)

Well you guys just keep on pretending y'all are eatin' breakfast....but ya ain't.  Breakfast ain't breakfast without Grits. 8)   The perfect breakfast is 2 eggs overlight, either bacon, sausage or fried ham, Grits with butter or Redeye gravy, homemade biscuits and lots of strong black coffee.  Sometimes some Florida orange juice or Florida grapefruit juice too.  Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Mm!  Now that's a fine breakfast! ;D

It sure beats the sugarcoated roll with the dab of jelly in the middle that is called a continental breakfast in the motels  hotels.  Those folks came from the wrong continent

LeeB

I have to go for the hash browns Charlie, although grits with butter and honey ain't shabby.

Not them grits again.Them are the things you have to have something with to make them taste good.  8)

LeeB, potatoes in any form are a poor substitute for grits at breakfast time.  I'm not sure how people in the frozen tundras of the northland started eating them for breakfast other than that maybe their brains froze.  Up here, they eat potatoes for all 4 meals! They even serve potatoes with potatoes. But......I'm not saying potatoes aren't good, I'm just saying you can't have a good breakfast unless it includes Grits!  And that's real Grits and not that fake stuff invented by some Yankee that's called Instant Grits! Blechhhhhhhhhh! :o ;D

So Charlie,
Where do you buy your grits "up North" and what brand and name do you get?

Or....do they have to be shipped in from "down South" ?? ::) ???

I just caught this post today, but Sunday is my day to cook breakfast while the girl folks get ready for church. Sunday we had two egg omelets with fresh made deer and pork pan sausage with toast and of course GRITS

Real Yankees don't eat grits.  ;) Instant ones must of been invented by a flatlander.

BeenThere, I'll eat Quaker Quick Grits if I run out of my Southern Supply. They are made in Iowa, but will do in a pinch.  When I go to Florida, I always bring back about 5 pounds of Dixie Lily Stone Ground Grits.  If I can't find Dixie Lily, then I'll buy Eelbeck or Jim Dandy. Dixie Lily can be ordered from the manufacturer over the internet.

Now Charlie, there is absolutely nothing wrong with potatoes for breakfast. Slice them thin and fry 'em up with a little garlic and chopped green onions. Mmmm, good.

What's with that oatmeal?  That might be good.  :)

We had a baked ham for New Years and I took the ham out of the pan, put a half a cup of coffee in there and scrubbe it real good.  Then I put it in a coffee cup, covered it with saran wrap and put it in the refrigerator.  I'm ready now. ;D

Tis very good Tom
I've posted the recipe somewhere here, and will look for it.

Has apple, cranberry, raisin, almonds, and even oatmeal...

breakfast--in the winter--sourdough buckwheat pancakes, with butter, and real maple syrup from ne iowa--hit like a ton of bricks, and last as long----------summer--bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar on top---

Grits are ok.  But I love Biscuits and gravy.  I can't eat them as often as I would like to.....
Too fattening.  :D

Patty, if I eat eggs with runny yolks they usually end up in my beard.  Denise usually points it out to me after they're dry...I just tell her I was saving them for her and then go in for a big  :-*   :D

Lately I've been eating cereal for breakfast, just because it's convenient.  Gotta be careful what kind I eat though.  If I have anything for breakfast that has much sugar in it, I've got the shakes in an hour or so I'm so hungry again.  Donuts don't cut it, if I have a couple of them first thing in the morning I'm eating all day long  :-\

Last week I fried a couple eggs, and put each one on a slice of homemade Italian bread (yeah, I finally made some bread  :) ), and topped them with feta cheese.  Smoked cheddar works nice too.

Tom

Man! you're missing the boat.  That is where grits shine.  over easy eggs, sunny eggs,  mixed in grits and eaten with salt, pepper and lot of hot coffee and hot buttered toast.  MMMM boy!

When I left school I was on a jackaroos wage and for extra cash in my holiday I went to the big smoke labouring on a building site. For smoko (morning tea) the boss would send me to the shop for hot food. I was known as the "Gopha" go for this, go for that. Anyway this boss wanted runny eggs and bacon sandwiches and every time I came back with them he'd have a go at me and say "The eggs arn't runny enough, the next day I'd tell the cook, get back with food and they still were not good enough. After 3 or 4 days I said to the cook toasted bacon sandwich and crack 2 raw eggs on it please, ;) when i got back the boss opened it and had raw egg from his wrists to elbows. ;D ;D

I thought I would have to learn to fight real quick when he started roaring at me, but I kept my casual job and 27yrs later we are good mates, dispite living totally different lifestyles, but I guarantee he would never ask me for a runny egg again. :D

Be careful Dave or there will be Dave Shepard brand grits when you get on here some day.   ;D  Those flatlanders   ;D  don't like it when you make fun of their favorite food too much.  :D  :D

Tom, perhaps I'll try it sometime, but I'm not much of a polenta person, which is about the same as grits  ???

Tom

Might be close. kinda like a GTO is a Limo.  :D

Which one got the alkaline carwash  ???  :D

Norm

I've been trying grits with different things lately. But I will say my favorite is to make eggs over easy or poached and to mix them up with the grits. I also made some where you bake them, let them set up and then slice into squares to fry with breakfast the next day. One thing I've noticed though is that they really pop when frying, have to stand back after flipping them. :o

Tom

An egg wash will slow that popping down.  :)

SwampDonkey

I'm glad I got my buckwheat pancakes. ;D

Yesterday I got to thinking about something else and poured double the milk in, so that meant more buckwheat. Darn good stuff.  :)

Now polenta is a grit relative I can get along with, especially with meatballs, or some nice sausages. 8)

??????????? the ones i speak off---are mixed the night before---buckwheat flour, white flour, and yeast--and sour down during the night--you have some batter left over--you remix them that night again--and the second morning they are really sour-----mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

SwampDonkey

Why not just use buttermilk like grandma? ;D These (Bob's Red Mill) do have buttermilk powder (I know a poor substitute). No yeast in these, just baking powder. Our local buckwheat pancake maker, doesn't add buttermilk powder and some other stuff Bob adds. Both taste good to me though. At least I can pronounce the ingredients. ;D
