Last summer I went to the Butterfly exhibit at the Minnesota Zoo, which is one of my favorite places. I have to practice a little more as the depth of field is very shallow when shooting closeups. Still I got a few keepers.

I went out after a heavy shower Tuesday evening and spotted this owl setting on a post just up the road.  Got my camera and kept walking towards it. (Should have been easy as it had it's back to me. :D)   It was about sundown and overcast so my digital camera set on auto tried using the flash.  I turned the flash off and got this close.  It finally sailed off the post and lit in tree about 50 yards away.

We've had this owl around for a while.  It may be living in our barn or even sawshed.

The post has about a 6" top so the owl is probably about 20" or more from tip of tail feather to ears.  It's got about a 3' wing span.
