Thanks Roxie

Please do. We will be back Thur. night
I actually told Furby in a PM last night that I hoped you would take up the "slack".
I didn't see the incident, but my son said one dogger who didn't go down on his steer, got throwed into the chutes on the other end when his horse didn't stop.

Thanks again Roxie

I found the "unofficial" standings as of today for Steer Wrestling.  I'll show the top 8.

Cowboy                         Before              WNFR             WNFR Earnings  Total
1 Shawn Greenfield        $102,337.75    $19,831.73     $122,169.48
2 Wade Sumpter              $93,283.24    $26,177.88     $119,461.12
3 Jule Hazen                    $90,017.75    $22,475.96     $112,493.71
4 Lee Graves                   $94,410.59    $17,319.71      $111,730.30
5 Luke Branquinho          $106,464.40      $2,644.23     $109,108.63
6 Todd Suhn                     $83,857.26    $19,567.30     $103,424.56
7 Stockton Graves            $96,875.68      $5,552.88     $102,428.56
8 Jason Miller                    $62,333.51    $36,225.96       $98,559.47

As you can see, coming into the finals, Jule was ranked sixth and he is now in third place.  Just looking at the money eighth place Jason Miller has won will show that it's still a wide open event and no dogger has a comfortable lead.

Thanks, Roxie :)

We don't have access to a station that carries the finals and like to know how the boy is doing.  It makes it so much more interesting when you know the rider's uncle ;D

By the way,  I once rode a bucking horse,   but not on purpose ;D ;D ;D

Probly not for very long either eh Noble! ;)

Bro. Noble

Well, Furb,  I hate to brag, but,  even though I didn't know anything about rodeoing and had little experience,  I rode that horse quicker than Jule wrestled his steers 8)

Roxie

:D Bro. Noble, there's a lot of folks that have accidentally ridden a bucking bronc.

Jule didn't have a good round tonight, but, to his credit, he didn't give up on an ornery steer and he got a qualified score of 16.1.

Here are the standings after tonights event:

Cowboy                  Before WNFR       WNFR Earnings  Total
1 Lee Graves             $94,410.59       $33,713.94       $128,124.53
2 Shawn Greenfield   $102,337.75       $19,831.73      $122,169.48

4 Jule Hazen              $90,017.75       $22,475.96       $112,493.71
5 Luke Branquinho    $106,464.40         $2,644.23       $109,108.63
6 Stockton Graves     $96,875.68       $11,105.76       $107,981.44
7 Casey McMillen        $82,510.14       $21,153.84       $103,663.98
8 Todd Suhn               $83,857.26       $19,567.30       $103,424.56

Jule dropped to 4th place, but these guys are so close, it's still anybodies game!

Garth Brooks said it best:

Well it's bulls and blood
It's dust and mud
It's the roar of a Sunday crowd
It's the white in his knuckles
The gold in the buckle
He'll win the next go 'round
It's boots and chaps
It's cowboy hats
It's spurs and latigo
It's the ropes and the reins
And the joy and the pain
And they call the thing rodeo

Officially at the half way mark of the National Finals it was the "dust and the blood" tonight.  In the Steer Wrestling event, as one of the cowboys reached for his steer, the steer's head came up and blasted the guy in the face.  He wrestled the steer down in 4.9, but he had to be assisted out of the arena because he didn't know where he was.  He had a bloody mouth, and was practically knocked unconscious....but he got his steer down.

The winning time tonight was 3.2 seconds.  Jule's score was 4.7 and I think that put him seventh or eighth in the round.  Not enough to put him in the money.

The current World Standings shows Jule knocked from 4th to 6th.

Matt Reeves was the name of the dogger that got his face blasted last night.  He was out tonight with a concussion.  Here's hoping he makes a full recovery and is back in the saddle real soon.

Jule scored a 4.6 tonight, which is respectable, but with the level of competition these cowboys are laying down, it left him short of the money.  He was 7th or 8th in the round tonight, which dropped him into 8th place in the World Standings.

The updated World Standings after tonights round:

Cowboy                Before WNFR          WNFR Earnings           Total
1 Lee Graves          $94,410.59              $45,084.13          $139,494.72

b'gosh I finally caught most of the performance last night, only caught a few minutes of a couple other nights, im gettin to old fer late nights anymore after hitting the 16th anniversary of my 29th birthday last weekend.....

I rode bulls in highschool and a couple local rodeos.... never did lose all my marbles so never made a good bull rider.  I should have dogged being as big as i was and still am, but never had a good horse for it nor was there whole bunch of interest in the sport amonst the folks i grew up with other than watching it so never had much for anyone to practice with either.... North Idaho is a little different now, more interest and support, though not as much as in other places...

Ive been lookin for a few mounts for my kids to start in on if they desire, my dad is pullin fer my kids to ride the bulls [mostly he watches the PBR and i have to tell him that my kids can ride if they want but if they dont want then thats ok too].

I knew several barrel gals growing up that chased the circuit too, nobody made it to the Finals though, most barely made the next go round.... but we all supported the champs! YesI am a fan, just not as dedicated as some... and i dont watch the world serious, and quit the superbowl a few years ago in favor of just chasin the hounds [sold the hounds but did not take back up the superbowl or other football watchin either for that matter]

Blueduck, I think rodeo is no different than any other sport or hobby that you make available to your children.  If the kids aren't interested, nothing is going to happen.  If they aren't enjoying it, they aren't gonna be good at it, whether it's bull riding, soccer, baseball, or music lessons.  Learning something new is never wasted, even if they don't make it to the National Finals or Carnegie Hall.   :)

Jule held his World position with a 4.7 go last night.  Again, not enough to win the money in the go round.

Current standings are:

1.Lee Graves              $94,410.59  $50,637.01  $145,047.60
2 Shawn Greenfield    $102,337.75  $30,144.22  $132,481.97
3 Jason Miller               $62,333.51  $67,427.88  $129,761.39
4 Stockton Graves       $96,875.68  $29,350.94  $126,226.62
5 Wade Sumpter          $93,283.24  $30,673.06  $123,956.30
6 Luke Branquinho      $106,464.40  $12,427.88  $118,892.28
7 Todd Suhn                 $83,857.26  $32,524.03  $116,381.29

Haytrader should be back today, and I'm really looking forward to hearing what it was like to be at the National Finals!

Yes, we are back. We came home to quite a mess.
Our trees really took a hit with the ice.

Roxie, you did/are doing such a good job reporting, pease keep it up.
Jule is just on the edge and could be doing a little better. That arena is so short that the lead the steer is givin is not much. If you leave to soon, you break the barrier. Wait to long and you are out of the money. All 15 steer wrestlers are capable of winning any given night. My guess is it will get real wild the last two performances. Those that have a long shot will stretch the barrier. Jule seems a little conservative to me but he has not had a N/T. He is sitting good in the average.

On another note. We went to all three Cowboy Christmas locations. They have everything from ccokware to jewelry to the fanciest horse trailer/campers available.
There were quite a few furniture makers and some pen turners. I visited with a lot of them and invited them to join the FF. I saw a $16,000 pool table made with mesquite. A bar made with spanish cedar for $18,000. Mantles from $450 $1200.
No pictures were allowed but we got business cards with web adresses. One guy told me his booth cost $21,000 and he was having a VERY GOOD show. BEST EVER , he said.

Back to rodeo...........GO JULE.....the next two nights are yours!

Roxie

So, you went to the National Finals, and enjoyed the shopping?   :D  It's good to have ya back.

When Jule was setting up in the pen tonight, the TV announcer said that "no lights would be on in Protection, Kansas tonight...the whole town came to watch Jule."  When Jule powered his steer to the ground, the announcer also said, "Look at the size of his left arm, he's not struggling with that steer, he's just saying 'hey steer, let me introduce you to this left arm.'"  Jule finished with a 4.3 run and was not in the money tonight.  He was still 4th in the average when the round began.  With one more night to go, it's still a tight race to the gold.

Jule is still holding on to 8th place in the World Finals:

Cowboy                        Before WNFR  WNFR Earnings  Total
1 Lee Graves                  $94,410.59  $56,189.89  $150,600.48

Roxie,

I warned the stewardess's that there were a bunch of rowdy rodeo fans of Jule Hazen, NFR Steer Wrestler, getting on the plane we came home on...... :D

Isn't it somthing that with a time as fast as Jule had last night and not be in the money? All 15 are truley winners in my mind. Any one can winn on any given night. I hope Jule is a little more agressive tonight. I sure would like to see him win a go round.

At breakfast this morning in the local cafe (we only have one) JUle was the talk. Some watched it on tV and the rest wanted to know how he did. We haven't had this much excitement since Nathan Leeper competed in the High Jump in the Olympics in Sydney.

Yes, we went shopping. I wish all of you could see some of the wood products we saw. If anyone is interested, PM me and I will pass along the web adresses of some of the vendors.

Last night of the rodeo. Heres hopeing Jule  "gets er done".

The final results are in and now it's rodeo history.  Jule was 6th in the average (which is a money position), and finished 9th over all in the World standings.  Just to have been there means that he is the best of the best...and it was his first time at the National Finals...maybe he'll win the gold next year.

Final World Standings:

Thanks to all of you that rooted for Jule. I have passed it on and he appreciated each of you.
Roxie, I told him about you being the head of The East Coast Fan Club and that you were posting the go round results daily. He was happy and proud.
My son Bryce is not only a cousin of Jule, but they are best friends. They spend a lot of time together when Jule is not on the road. Bryce called last night after the final performance and said Jule has a new stratedgy for the coming year. One that, God willing, will put him back in Las Vegas.
Whether he came out on top or not, I think he and all the contestents in all the events are true winners just to make it to the big show. From the rookies to the saddle bronc rider Billy Etbaur and the calf roper who has been there 22 times,  my hat is off to them. They are living thier dream.

He done the best he could  with what he had to deal with. To anybody that has been to Vegas is pretty overwhelming .When you walk into the T&M arena for the first time you are in awe .Not at the mass size but the lack of size. Its a very small arena  and doesnt allow any room for anything less than a perfect run. I didnt get to see any of it on Tv but its usually a sell out crowd and standing room only. They used to sell floating tickets buy one and get a seat not in use untill somebody with that seat showed up and then move to next empty seat.
With good health and a good horse he will be back in the lime light of Vegas next year. On a lighter note he made in a 10 day span what would take a full year on the ranch  if thay made that much.
