The game between the Packers and the Cowboys this Thursday has the potential to be the best game of the season including the post season. If both teams play mistake-free football and both play their best game, it could be one of the best games of all time and make the Classic ESPN Best Games Ever Played list. Of course Romo could throw 5 interceptions and so could Farve, so it could be a lopsided blowout.

I have been sour on pro football so long i thought I could never get enthused about it again. But Romo and Farve are so much alike - and they both genuinely love the game more than the paycheck that it's fun to watch again. I have been a Packer fan even before the Farve era, but I have been a Cowboy fan since I was old enough to say Don Meredith. So for me it's a bitter sweet game.

As much as I like the Packers I like the Cowboys even better and want them to win. But my prediction is that the Packers will win the game. I am not trying to come across like some football guru I am certainly not, but from my own observations this year following both teams, I think the Cowboys are actually a better team than the Pack, but I think they don't match up to the Packers as well as they do to the other teams in the league. Green Bays biggest strength is in the area of our biggest weakness. Also, the Packers have a better defense overall, and we have a well known achilles heel in our defensive backfield. Farve is going to exploit it early and often. I wouldn't be suprised if he did it the first time he gets his hands on the ball.

The only area where the Cowboys have the edge is our running game is better. But the Packers have rushed for over 100 yards for the last 3 games so they are peaking at the worst time for Cowboys fans. Special teams I don't really know who has the edge there but the game could come down to the special teams. It could also come down to whever has the ball last.

So what's all this mean? Not a steenking thing cause anything can happen. That's why it's worth watching. The thing that has me watching consistently again this year after having not cared at all for several years is because we have a decent man for a coach who is also a good coach for a change. And mostly because both quarterbacks would still play the game even if they weren't getting paid because they both truly love the game more than the paycheck. Both teams are having a blast this year and giving 100% every play every game so it's not a bunch of overpaid athletes just going through the motions. okay they might be overpaid that is arguable but not the point. they are all without question having fun so it just makes if fun to watch.

So that's my prediction. The Pack will win the game 42 - 39. But I sure hope I am wrong.  Go Cowpack! I mean Packboys!  8)

Hey Burlkraft we ought to make the game a little more interesting. Something like if the Pack wins I have to post a picture of me wearing a Packers shirt and if the Cowboys win you have to post a picture of you wearing a pink ballerina tutu.  :D

Hey Steve how many teams are claiming to be America's team this year? ;D I think that's why there are more Cowboy fans, AND more Cowboy haters than any other team. And it wasn't even a Cowboy who dubbed them as such.

So what's your scroe prediction Steve. C'mon step out on a limb and give us a score ???

I can't decide who I dislike more, Terrell Owens or the whole Packers team. :D :D

I have always liked the Packer organization because they aren't the plaything of some overly self-righteous individual but rather owned by the town of Green Bay.  There is an allegiance there that isn't shared by any other professional team and I just have to admire it.  :)

sawguy21

I got pithed with them when they drew a bigger crowd in Toronto for an exhibition match than the Grey Cup game after winning the Super Bowl.. When asked about that, one of the overpaid blowhards replied 'Well of course, that was just the Grey Cup, we are the world champions". Excuuuuse me, world champions of WHAT?

self inflation sometimes leads to split seams.  Perhaps some of them don't understand the honor in humility, a quality fast becoming a rarity.  Still, from Green Bay's side, I gotta admire them for making the team theirs rather than a corporate plaything.

Win, Packers, win! 8)

I've heard enough talk about that team in dallas to last me five lifetimes; also have to give Farve credit for having a great season.  I might say something nice about romo, if he's still around in 15 years :D.

I feel the same was as Tom and Willard.  I admire the Packers organization because they are owned by the people rather than a corporation.  I dislike the Cowboys because of the way their no-class owner dumped on Tom Landry. >:(

As far as the individual players are concerned, in most cases they were drafted or traded into their current situation and have little or nothing to do with the city they represent.  I wonder how many of the Cowboys are actually Texans? ??? ::)

TexasTimbers

Yeah it took me years to finally "get over" the way Jones dissed Landry. And I am not really "over it." i think when it gets down to it, most football fans don't like alot of the players themselves, but the game of football can still be fun to watch. i also think alot of people watch it and don't admit it.

I have been a packer fan since i was a kid. About the same time i was a cowboy fan. I never really had "heroes" per se, but the sports people I always pulled for were terry Bradshaw (used to catch hell for that) Roger Staubach, George Foreman, and Al Oerter everytime the summer olympics would roll around.

It's easy to hate the Cowboys if you are from somewhere besides Texas, I totally understand that. It's like many people hate the Yankees because they have a jerk for an owner and pretty much dominate the sport more so than any other orginazation.

Jerry Jones has actually not been the jerk he started out as, but that's not something you can usually shake in a lifetime. the fact is, alot of good people have come through the cowboy orginisation and alot of jerks have too. Green Bay has had it fair share of jerks as well, but I don't hold it against the orginaztion in general. The ebb and flow of decency and decadence that rolls downhill from ownership to waterboy is prevelant in any sports orgination, or corporation that has ever existed. I guess it will always be that way.

When Jerry bought Terrell Owens I wanted to vomit. But like it or not, he has sought professional help off the field and it has helped him. I have to admire that, even though he still grates on my nerves and probably always will, at least he has made a choice to try and be a better teamate and a better person. So far he has made great strides. How long it lasts no one knows.

Sports is still just a game but it is also big business and the dollar rules. In Green Bay just as much as it does in New York or Chicago.

What you don't hear about are the stories like Tim Duncan who quietly renegotiated his contract in a way that left enough benchmoney to keep the team intact. Unlike A-Rod who is an egotistical self-centered jerk who would squeeze every last thin dime out of the Yankee orginisation if he could just to be the highest paid sports figure in history, people like Duncan walk in without an agent an basically say keep the team in tact and I'll take less if I have to.

But in the end most people don't care. They just want to see a good game and if they make outrageous sums of money it's no skin off my back. Most of the people who complain about it would be the first ones taking the millions too if they had the talent to get on the field and make spectaculkar throws and catches and allow their bodies to be pulverized.

Many of those players from the 60s and 70s are broken down bodies who are left out in the cold while the NFL players uniojn sits on millions of doallrs they won't use to help those guys some of whom are in dire need of assistance.

That's another rant altogether.

TexasTimbers, your post makes a lot of sense, thanks for taking the time to write it.

I'll spare everyone my ranting regarding the football team in Dallas, because, as I recall, Be Nice! in the #1 rule here on FF.  I sometimes have to remind myself that it's just a game.

I'm a Packer fan, but I think the Cowboys will win this one.  :(

The Packer's defense is nicked up right now. The quarterback match-up is getting a lot of attention, but I think the Cowboy's running game will play a big part in the outcome.

Cowboy's by at least a touchdown.

Nothin means nothing except the score at the end of the game, but still it's fun to toss stats and trivia back and forth. Here's one for ya. Brett Farve has played 8 games in Texas stadium. He has lost every single time. One way to look at it is that is way overdue. Another way to look at it is that he just can't shake those demons. ???

We'll know in a half dozen hours or so. I am still staying with my prediction. I think the old gunslinger will have his best game ever, and Romo won't choke, but I think he;s going to buckle under the pressure just enough that Farve will finally get that elusive win in Texas Stadium. This will probably be his last game there. I think he wants to win more than anyone on the field. If his defense doesn't crumble under a game plan that you know Garrett is going to be super aggressive with then he will get it. I almost hope he does. But not quite. ;)

But then there is the unsung Dallas weapons. Greg Ellis and DeMarcus Ware. If they keep pressure on Farve, AND the superior Dallas running game coomes through . . . . . . . hmmmmm I am having second thoughts about this. I think Dallas might just pull it off.

Okay I am changing my prediction. Dallas 38 - Green Bay 31.

Farve throws 2 Interceptions 4 touchdows; Romo throws 1 interception and 5 touchdowns.

And yes Ron, there's still millions of real Texas, born and bred, in Dallas alone. ;D

Now watch the game end 17 to 10 in overtime. :D

Actually, that is close to score in the second quarter.

When I was in college in Dallas I lived in a Co-ed dorm.  The young lady that lived right across the hall from me was a back-up Dallas Cowboy cheerleader.  I have been a Cowboy fan ever since. :)

Well...The better team won last night. I don't what the Packers game plan was in beginning, but it wasn't a good one... ::) ::)

Farve is hurt, but they have 10 days to heal before they play again.

The one thing I do not like is the way Atari Bigby plays. Those personal fouls really hurt the team and are uncalled for. I'm not a big fan of guy's who rip other guy's helmets off and last night was not the first time he's done that    >:(  >:(  >:( no_no no_no no_no

Congrats Cowboy fans....I hope we'll meet up once again in the playoffs....... ;) ;) ;D ;D

I didn't like to see Farve get hurt, but as much of a Farve fan as I am I do not think he was going to have a good game. He has those bad games occassionally (all players do quarterbacks or not) and had the GB backup not come in I think the score would have been worse.
It might not have lived up to the hype but it was a pretty good game for about 75% of the time.

I think they will definately meet again and the winner will lose to face New England in the super bowl. I know I am discounting other good teams but I think the Cows will meet the Pats in the SB.

Actually, Philedelphia did a big favor to whoever does face the Pats in the Super Bowl. The Eagles exposed some weaknesses and you can bet every team who is left on their schedule is watching that game over and over and over. The Patriots are not invincible. Close, but they can be beat.

Us Green Bay fans have nothing to be ashamed of. Things just didn't go our way last night.

It's hard being a CowPack fan. Still I'm glad the Cows won. I want to see them upset the Pats in the big one.

Hey Rich remember what Everett said in O' Brother . . . . .The pleasin odor is half the point.

Well heck that is half the fun of a football game is guessing how it is going to be won or lost. Even the "experts" are usually wrong - a guy like me don't stand a chance. :)
