You can turn a blanket chest into firewood, but can you turn firewood into a blanket chest?
These are some projects that I am working on.
The wormy is whiteoak.
The other is maple (ambrosia maple)
I'll also show a black cherry chest later.

I see some blue stain, did you hit anything while sawing it, or is that just from the bug bathroom?

I presume the chest will be cedar lined?

I'm impressed with your choice of wood solidwoods, most of the people we sell to wouldn't see the potential in the boards your using. Most seem to think that if it isn't FAS then it should be firewood. We sawed up a chunk of cherry that has some of the same character, can't wait for it to dry so we can use it in some projects. Looking forward to some more pics of your work when you have time.

Blanket chest are finished.  Here is two of them. I also have a Blackcherry (not shown)

Wormy Whiteoak chest.  Base is approx.  61 X 20 , Height 23. Includes choice of slide tray inside.

Maple Chest (some call it Ambrosia Maple). Base is approx 49 X 24, height 24.
$675 at my showroom at:
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?country=US&countrycode=250&city=Allardt&state=tn&submit.x=27&submit.y=10

To answer some questions,  The Whiteoak tree had barbwire and rope inside of it, the wire left "bluestain) and I'll have to show the rope (still imbedded) in person.  The tree had been down for 2+years.

To Boo Boo's Mom.  I don't put cedar lining inside of speculation pieces just to keep the whole project simple. These chests however do have Aromatic Cedar Raised panels in the bottom of them.  I can also put some cedar balls (hold the jokes, she could be someone's Mom) inside, or a slide tray/box made all or part Cedar.

Question I got is, do you cover the holes from the inside with anything, if they go clean through, to keep out moths silverfish and such?? Nice chests.

Someone asked about other projects?
This is our sales counter.  The frame is Wateroak, top is Blued yellow pine, panels are Black locust, The 3 backlit panels are pine "Fatlighter" 1/16 thick they are on a timer to act as a night light (florescent bulb).

Fl Deadheader.  Silverfish! Hokey Smoke! The holes are open to the inside. Get an iguana, a small one. :D

I guess I am more dense than the wood from which the chest
was constructed as I still do not comprehend how the moths
and silverfish are kept at bay if indeed the chest is "holy".
Just one thing to do and that is to see it in real time.  I take
it that your show room is open to the public?  Appointment
or reservations needed?

solidwoods

We are a family run business (my wife grooms dogs, and I build furniture),  We have a small show room, and yes we are open to the public.
When people need accommodations here, I suggest either one of the very nice B&B's 1 mile away in Allardt, or  you can rent an 100yr 2 story Farm house with 5ac & Barn (if you brought horses for riding in one of the State Parks) for $85 night. There is also the Jordan Hotel, family run (we know the family, good folks), simple,  close, quiet. This area also has numerous state/fed parks, historic British community called Rugby (touring, British restaurant, and a neat commissary gift shop 2story of handmade Appalachian goodies/gifts)
