Made my wife this entertainment center for our anniversary.  The 9th year is supposed to be a walnut gift right? :D  This is a reproduction of a Craftsman style wardrobe.

Is the pic blurry or pixilated to you guy's?  I can't get a decent picture today for some reason.  Wonder if it's my moniter?

Nice job. 8) That looks great, I really like the doors. Are they bookmatched or wide boards?
Horses dont git broke.Cowboys do.

Each door panel is a single board.  And are book matched to each other.

Very nice! I like craftsman style furniture. I have many books on Shaker furniture, the beauty is in the simplicity.

AWESOME I love it when da purdy wood is used and not just da plain stuff.
If it can't be nailed or glued then screw it

Haytrader

Very nice.
Are you sure you don't want to put it in a FF auction?
(never mind the anniversary)

;) ;D

Thanks for the kind words. ;D

Yeah, I think Wifey would be upset if her box dissappeared.  Even to such a worthy cause like the Forestry Forum.

I looked at those bookmatched boards leaning against my shop wall for over 5 years  waiting for them to tell me what they wanted to be.  Finally! smiley_sidelightbulb  Those door panels popped into my head.

getoverit

that is really pretty!  What did you use for a finish on it?
I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok, I work all night and sleep all day

metalspinner

The finish is Minwax Satin Poly right out of the can.  Each surface was applied horizontally to avoid problems.  I rubbed it out, then put on a coat of wax.  I really need tuff finishes here.  Anything less than poly and my kids would destroy it.

WDH,  I built the table and entertainment center with the crotches so they would match. However, when I set them near each other, it looks like they are from the same tree!

So.......where do I place my order for some nice walnut? ;D

Nice looking piece of cabinetry. I got some space in the house that is begging for something to sit in it.  :D

I soon gotta get to work on my projects, since winter is almost here.  ;D Well, we did get one inch of snow and now it's about to rain.

Keep up the good work.  :)

I'm relieved to know I 'm not the only one wood talks to. Some of it is pretty shy, some quite vociferous. It might tell you what it wants to be coming off the saw or it might wait years to speak up. I have a lot of the shy stuff. At least thats my excuse for hording so much of it. :D

Don K, you are mixing up your sayings. Boar hogs have several t****.   The sayings is "scarce as hen's teeth" and "worthless as t**** on a boar hog."  :P ;D Either way, I understand you don't have much walnut. :(

I guess kinda,  :D :D. I guess I shoulda said, scarce as a working t*** on a boar hog. He might have a bunch but I haven't ever seen any piglets attached to them :D :D

I don't have much to say about boar t****  or whether they work or not  ::)   , but I do have odd relationships with the wood we saw. When Norm bought his mill back in '01, I had visions of selling loads of wood to anyone who wanted it. Then the first slice came off that mill, and it rocked my world. Holy buckets, I was seeing beauty in each slice that no human eyes had ever witnessed. I could not part with it.  ::)    So now we have stacks and stacks of beautiful wood. I find great pleasure in giving the wood to folks who can also appreciate it and who I know will create great pieces of art with it. My brother is one who I like to share our wood with. His furniture is very pretty. Young folks are another. If a youngster stops out and shows interest, I try to send home as much wood as will fit in their vehicle. One young man rewarded my gift with a beautiful table he crafted from the cherry I sent home with him. It sets in my living room with pride.

So wood talks to many of us in one way or another, you just have to be listening.

Very well said Patty. When I saw a big ol oak crotch I catch myself thinking, now who can I give this to that will turn it into something even more beautiful?? Young couples just starting out get a lot of my wood. So do elderly neighbors who may have a different outlook.. Plain oak boards made into a ramp become a thing of great beauty to someone who can no longer navigate the steps.
