Climate Change Impacts BC Forests

Climate changes are affecting forests now, and the science indicates that further changes are expected.

The Forest Stewardship Division of the Ministry of Forests and Range held a special showing for its staff of Al Gore's documentary 'An Inconvenient Truth'. The documentary investigates how this complex phenomenon came about and the challenges that lie ahead.

"Over the last few years it has become increasingly apparent that a changing climate is making the task of forest stewardship more complex," says Jim Snetsinger, Chief Forester. "As forest managers, we face the challenge of assessing what these changes mean for resource values, and adapting management strategies accordingly."

The film was followed by a question and answer session hosted by MOFR and MOE climate change staff.

The New Brunswick Public Forest

New Brunswickers have spent a lot of time, over the past three years, discussing the future of the province's public forest. The Select Committee on Wood Supply held public meetings in November and December 2003. They heard presentations from over 200 people and received an additional 200 briefs and letters from individuals and stakeholders. Values and desired benefits from the public (Crown) forest were examined and the Committee made recommendations based on what they heard from the participants in this public process.
After thoroughly examining these recommendations, Government has developed a direction for the future management of the public forest. This document defines the philosophy, principles and direction that will be followed in the management of that forest.

Please don't tell me that the New Brunswick Forestry Ministers are actually taking that clap trap movie by Al Gore as anything even close to the truth. The movie has already been discounted and successfully refuted by reputable scientists here and no one can take it seriously unless they have had a total lobotomy. If there is any other US citizen that is a bigger embarassment, both literally and figuratively, other than Michael  Moore, than Al Gore I don't have any idea who it is.

No, it's the BC government. The NB report is independent and not related in that way.

I think it might be in NB's best interest to hire Old Al to lead your adventures.   You need a Right wing, conservative view point to help balance the liberal bent I perceive in the area.  It would be an opportunity for Al to widen his horizons too.  Down here he is considered to lean a little bit to the left.   Everything is relative, I guess.  :D

New Forest Management Planning Standards in Alberta's Public Forests

Alberta is always looking for ways to better manage our forests for sustainability. These efforts have resulted in a new Forest Management Planning Standard for the province.

The new standard is the product of several years of extensive stakeholder consultation.

Completed in April 2006, it replaces the Interim Forest Management Planning Manual in use since 1998.

The new Forest Management Planning Standard identifies requirements for forest management plans prepared by forest industry companies working on public land. It is based on, and reflects internationally accepted principles of forest sustainability.

Nova Scotia's Code of Forest Practice

As part of an ongoing process for implementing a comprehensive forest strategy for Nova Scotia, the Department of Natural Resources has completed the first component of a Code of Forest Practice entitled: "A Framework for the Implementation of Sustainable Forest Management".

It describes the general principles that will form the basis of forest practices described in future guidebooks and technical references.

i lived in BC for 7 years and it is a beautiful place to live but I swear most the worlds green bleeding hearts end up there for 2 reason.

BC produces the best "hemp"(read highest TCH content) in the world and it is also BC's unofficial largest export product. Good way to fund Green wash Media efforts.

Second BC has the most screwed up politics in the country because of way to many years of NDP government that have created high levels of unemployables and unemployed.

I will stop there because there isn't enough room here to itemize the stupidity that happens in Victoria. Just suffice it to say that enough of BCs best export crop is used in Victoria to have a lasting affect on the collective grey matter that occupy the halls of government in that province. Doubt if you get get enough of that grey matter in one container to even make a baby rattle.
