I've been getting some logs from a tree service with metal in them and
a few weeks back I had seen a metal detector with a curved head.  I
had mentioned this to a fellow sawyer and he said he had seen one also,
but couldn't remember the brand.   It is like a beach-combers detector.
Anyone know who makes these?

Any metal detector will work. Of course the more expensive models will penatrate deeper but all have their limit. Most are "motion" machines, meaning, they need a constent swing to pick up metal. A few, like the Fisher Impulse, is a "no motion" machine and will detect metal when still. Either will work. I use a cheap Walmart bought Bounty Hunter.

The sure way to find metal is to put on a new blade. Never fails when cutting urban logs!

Anyone have any experience with this detector? Wood Wizard

I also found it on Ebay.
