I have a Husky 353 which I want to put a 16" bar on.

I email Husqvarna CS & am told I need a 508 92 61 66 bar & a 501 84 06 66 chain.

I look on Husky's web site & it says I need a531 30 04 38 bar & 531 30 04 37 chain

Then on another website I see the bar I should use is an HLN 250 66

And to top things off many months ago I bought an HLN 250 66 & this bar is marked
608 00 01 85

PLease someone help me, my brain is scambled.

Good idea on calling Bailey's.  They'll hook you up.  The Husqvarna model numbers are meaningless - any small Husqvarna mount bar will fit, and any chain of the corresponding pitch, gauge, and drive link count will solve the chain issue.

Kevin

This looks like a .325 pitch chain which should be Husqvarna part #531 30 04-36

Part Number
531 30 04-36

Description
   16" Pixel Bar- Fits 41, 45, 49, 51, 55, 340, 345, 346XP, 350, 351, and 353

Oregon can be found here

This is Baileys

This is what the U. S. distributors probably use to order

I sell Husqvarna and still don't understand their numbering system.  :D The Oregon bar would be 168RNBK095 and the matching chain is 21LG X66.

Thanks alot!  I thought I was a pretty savy guy until I started trying to figure out these numbers.

The chart that Kevin posted the link for tells you everything that you need to know but it helps to know a little bit about the various saw models to make your initial use of the chart easier.

First, HL establishes that it is a laminated sprocket tip bar which means that it will weigh less than a similar solid sprocket tip bar and cost less, but it will not be as durable. Some brands of  laminated sprocket tip don`t have a replaceable tip either so if the tip goes south you have to trash the entire bar.

Second, the number series 2xx, ie; 250, 258, 280 all distinguish that this is the Husky small tail pattern bar which is what the saws smaller than the 61, 66, 266, 365...........use. The numbers after the prefix 2 distinguish the other characteristics such as chain pitch and gauge for example a 250 bar is a small tail .325X.050 gauge bar and a 258 bar is small tail .325x.058 gauge. A 280 is a small tail 3/8 pitch x .050 gauge and a 288 is a small tail 3/8x.058 gauge bar. This is all pretty simple in reality, isn`t it?

There are also other variations on this theme, for instance the HLI bars have an Intenze adjuster built in and the 3/8 chain that they use is LO PRO but that is no concern to you for the 353.

The HLN bars are the Narrow Kerf or "Microlite" bars and probably what your saw was outfitted with in conjunction with the H30 or Oregon 95vp chain at the dealer when you bought it. This is a very good combo for the 353 so according the HLN250 66 is the correct bar for what you want, don`t be concerned with any other markings on the bar as Husqvarna symbol numbers change, sometimes frequently.
