I am in the early stages of building myself a woodworking shop. I will be building a type of timber frame structure. I want to have an open ceiling and you will be able to see the roofboards. I will saw these boards 1" out of spruce and balsam fir. I want to maintain the colour as they are when first sawed. I will store and dry them under cover so the sun does not turn them grey. My question is there some type of product that could be sprayed on the inside as soon as they are installed to keep the colour the same. Maybe a type of "varnish". Maybe something from Sikkens. Any thoughts??????????

I love the fresh, light color of new pine and fir but it's real hard to keep it light.

Any coating with a UV inhibitor will help. Some oxidize and get darker more quickly than others .All of them will be darker in a few years but not as dark as untreated wood.
A polyurethane or varnish that dries hard would be my first choice over an 'oil' type coating.

Hope this helps ;D
