We are looking at the Newberry area.
Looking for things we gotta see/do/experience.

I have never been to the U.P. before, really looking forward to it 8)

How far ya willing to sled from Newberry?

moosehunter

We like to ride 100-150 miles per day, during the day. We hit the trail early and like to be back by dark, so trail conditions greatly influence how far we ride.
Need to be in by dark 'cause thats when the crazy riders come out :o

You are within that distance to the cabin. Will it be just the two of you?

We have some deep woods trails up this way and it's not that much further from where you'll be.
If you need a link for info let me know.
Please don't pet the moose.

Great place to ride, in all directions.  I have ridden from The casino up by sault st marie all the way to pictured rocks to the west.  Also from SSM out to mackinaw island.  The lake crossing is a trip!  I do more miles in a day than a lot of people. I am usually by myself, so that cuts down on stops for all the wild reasons.  Get gas, use the facilities, and head out.  The worst ride I went on was 14 sleds and one 2-up with a video camera.  With about 2 hours to go in the ride I had enough and throttled down and met back up at the casino.  When I stopped there was 4 other sleds with me who had the same idea and followed me home.  Those are the guys I call when I want company now.

Tahq falls gets crowded, and there is a brew pub there, so that describes a lot of the traffic you are going to see coming out of there......  Its great to see in the winter though, all iced up.  You can ride up to White Fish point.  Its kinda cool, see lake superior and the point and light house.

No matter where you go, you'll have pretty good trails.  Get some maps in advance and just pick oput a couple routes you want to try.  Or, when you get there, ask which trails are best and just take off.  The locals usually know what trails are in good shape and which are tore up by logging.  Try fishweb.com to sledtheweb, both are same.  The maps and reports are usually all up to date.

I've got a couple good places to stay if your up to a cabin.  We go up for "guys weekends" and rent a large cabin, which ends up being cheaper than several hotels.  If just the two of you then a hotel might be better.
Have fun.  Think Snow!

Theres plenty of time left if you are on your original schedule before you need to worry.  There is no snow right now, but it only takes one night to change that.

Especially if the rain we are getting now turns to snow up north. 1 inch of rain = 10 inches of snow. ;)
