Hey, I just got another saw, and it uses .404 .058 chain, my other saws use 3/8 .058, what the difference, is the cutter size bigger??

Thanks

Timburr

Hey, yes.  The first number (.404 and 3/8)is the pitch of the chain in inches and .058 is the guage of the driver links (width of bar groove minus a couple of thou.).
3/8 relates to 0.375. Unless you have specialist equipment, the general rule for stock chainsaws is; The greater the pitch, the larger the cutter and the wider the kerf cut.
Sense is not common

Ok, thanks allot for clearing that up.

.404, 3/8, .325, etc. are the pitch of the chain as stated above. This is the average distance between rivet centers.
