The cedar finally got to the correct Jeff. I see now why the wrong Jeff wanted to keep it, its some pretty stuff!

The Furbster showed up yesterday afternoon to deliver the cedar from Cedarman and also some big cookies for some of this years pig roast tables. We had a great visit. Furb and Stacy played Furby hide and seek with the camera but Stacy was diligent and got a few photos. Its always great to have Jason come and visit. He's like the little Furby we never had. ;) :D

What kind of willow are those tops from??  We have willow here but there are more than one kind.  I do know we have red and diamond willows but they don't often grow that big here.  We do however have a couple of willows of comparable size, but it's just to DanG hard to get out of where it is.....

We call them "Weeping Willow" :)

We started to install the floor this morning. I was going to wait and do the walls first, but I hate to waste the time because we dont have the wall paneling done yet. Maybe Monday Greg and I will get that made. Once we get it down we will put cardboard or something down to protect it while we do the other work.

Should be beautiful when were done! Cedarman's product is manufatured very well. It looks like just some finnish sanding with a palm sander at this point is all this floor will need!

Lovely floor!

May I inquire, what's the little house for? Is it a study? or a refuge? or the new FF Headquarters?

Jeff ,  is that tar paper your putting down , why not use the brown construction paper . I have used the tar paper before in a camp , I have since used to the other , as it dont give off any odor when it gets hot .

Its roofing felt Marcel. I have no plans on my floor getting hot. :D   Besides, I already had this roll taking up space and needed to get it used up. It seemd to attract planes if you try to burn it. Sorta like tires. :)

Um, Boss, do the girls know you put THAT shot onto the internet???

If not, could you get someone else to be pointing a camera at you when they see it?

I'd sure be interested to know what they throw at you.

I'm thinking Furby would have come up with a DanG good story on what happened to the cedar on the way to my place if he knew it was going to turn out like that! :)

Furby

Gotta say Cedarman handles some real nice cedar, bet he could locate some. ;)

Jeff

I sent him an email suggesting advertising some up here. If he had enough bites he might even pay for his piggy roast trip. It sure is some beautiful stuff and ya just dont get it up here very easily.

Having seen the furbster, i now fully understand why the ladies of the forum want there own ;).

Jeff

He is a handsome devil ain't he? Smart too.  He'll make some woman a fine Furby some day.  Problem is he's only been three years old ever since he joined the forum. I'm usually a good guess when it comes to age but the Furbster is one of those guys that defies the normal rules for guessing. I've been around him quite a bit and really, I cant get a handle on it, but I got it narrowed down some. He is definitely between 3 and 35.

Iain, I think the floor will tone down once the walls are up, some things are in the room and a couple throw rugs are down.  I just love a floor that lets me sit for hours and be mezmoried by it.

Cedarman

Now everyone knows why I like sawing cedar.  The look is only half of it, the other half just smells good.
I am in the pink when sawing cedar.

Furby

I came back from TN with some of it in the cab of the truck.
It spent it's time at my place in my living room.
Before going up to Jeff's, it spent the night in the back of my Explorer with all the windows closed.
I love ERC! ;D

Mooseherder

Wow, what a beautiful job!
Hey, now ya got to take yer shoes off when entering! smiley_argue01

Furby

Yeah, I walked in there before the cedar was down and Tammy asked if I wiped my feet. Told her nope!
Figure now, I'd get thumped if I were to walk with even just socks on. :D

Cedarman

If anyone would like me to bring some cedar to piggie roast, I could do that.  Either 9/16" tongue and grooved or some 1" x wide.  Let me know.  Or some cants if you want to resaw them.

Beautiful floor!  Hope Tom brings come bunny slippers when he stays over.  Too pretty for even soft sweat soaked socks to tread on!  Nice job.
I used to think I could fix DanG near anything...now I know I can...or I think I can...or maybe I can?

Jjhle6

I am coming into this extremely ignorant about any kind of wood. My family is building a floating tiny house on a local lake and we have decided to finish the inside of it in wood. We went to a sawmill that is run by a local mennonite family and as soon as I saw the eastern red cedar cut I was sold and wanted it for the floors. After scouring the internet for cedar floors I have repeatedly come up empty handed or have read that it can't be finished or that if you do try and finish it that the finish doesn't dry. I was broken hearted until I stumbled upon a picture of the very floors I had envisioned. Jeff, it says you used polyurethane on them, but did it have a hard time drying? How is it holding up and what is the maintenance for it?

Cedarman

We put a floor in in 1992 of ERC.  I think we used Gym Coat.  Never had a bit of problem.  Make sure it is 10 to 12% or lower.
I know of several people that have cedar floors.  Cedar can be finished for cedar chests, paneling , picnic tables and everything else.  Don't know why floors are any different.

Welcome to the forum Jjhle6, I have erc corner posts that were put in the ground by my grandpa, not the same as a floor I know, but they're still there after 70 plus years.  Thanks for bringing this topic back up, I'd love to have a floor like that just never saw this thread before.

Jeff

The flooring is doing what it was meant to do. No problems. I would warn against putting it in a high traffic area. Using in a bedroom is a great place to use it because it's very nice to walk on. we need to put some flooring in our master bedroom and I would consider doing this again in there.cedar man, who posted earlier, is the man to see. He produced the cedar that went into this cabin and it was excellent stuff
