There seem to be a number of old machinery fans on this forum so it may be worth asking.

The village museum has a ditchdigger that is made by a local inventor about 1915. The drawings are lost. The engine and clutch has been missing  as long as anybody can remember.  Rumour has it that the motor was American made but nothing is known about make and model..

Can you please redirect me to some old engine site where they might be able to determine which motor fits on the engine mounts. I have digital pictures and measurements.

I know this is hopeless but maybe somebody somewhere may be able to identify it.

Thankful for advice.

Jeff

TW, place a help ad here:

Include your photos and all information. You should get some help. These are the best old engine information sites out there.

You might post them here as well as we got some guys that just might know. Besides, I love that old stuff. ;D

You could also try this place http://www.ctamachinery.com/     it's about a mile from my house, they restore many old steam engines, tractors, trains & machinery. Worth a try.

The ditchdigger is built about 1914. The motor has been missing as long as anybody can remember. Rumour has it that the motor was imported from America. The inventor had some contacts in the Chicago area.

The center to center measurements of the mounting holes in the crossbeams is 35x78 cm (about 13.8x30.7") The depth of the arched parts in the crossbeams is 6 cm(2.4").

There is an old picture of another ditchdigger. The motor was a 3 or 4 cylinder sidevalve engine with open flywheel to the front like a boat engine. Of cause it does not have to be a similar engine in this one.
