I have a security light fixture that has a 100 watt HPS bulb in it, can it be replaced with a 150 watt HPS bulb and work correctly?

Check on the ballast.  It usually says max wattage on it.  Depending on the ballast, it might get wayyyyyyy to hot and burn out.  Causes a high risk of building fire as well.
