Do copper nails driven into a spruce tree eventually kill the tree??? or is this just an old wives tale???

Thanks

I've heard that copper nails driven in red (scotch) pine will eventually kill them.  Lady scientist obtained permission to study some special large red pine to have been planted by Aldo Leopold, and proceeded to kill the ones she put copper nails into.  A bit embarrassing, to say the least.
Don't know about the wives tale for spruce.  :)
Maybe Mary knows, if she is as pschycopathic as Bibby thinks. ;) He could ask her during his next middle-of-the-night walk.

Girdling with a chainsaw works the best !!

Copper is toxic to plants and probably trees, but i think it would take more than just a nail or two to finish off a "healthy" tree.
