I have an old echo cs400evl.  No idea what evl means, but hey.  Anyway, is it possible to retrofit a chain brake on an old saw?  And also, where can I get a new bar and chain for it. I was thinking narrow kerf semi skip tooth for cutting hardwoods and a 16" bar.  And last of all, what can I do to hop it up a bit ;D

Not sure about a chain brake but Oregon makes bars and chain for it but I would use full comp chain on a saw that size.
To hop it up , not much if anything that won't cost more than the saw is worth.
Buy a new saw, you're worth it .
Clean this one up and keep it for a spare.
