I found these interesting specimens growing all over a red maple. The blue-green color was quite striking. It was growing on other maples as well. I was in a white cedar stand and they (cedar) didn't seem to be hosting any of these guys, only saw them on the maples.

I call this one the lettuce lichen. :D

This one reminds me of a green salad with a little paprika sprinkled on it. :D

Take a deep breath of cold winter air and enjoy nature. :)

The fungus of your lichen may only be adapted to growing on red maple bark  ???

I recently found 4 different situations on 1 tree... south side of tree had green mossy stuff growing on it, west side of tree had a bluish kinda lichen, north side had a kinda moldy looking growth on it, and the east side had a combination of the blue and mold

West

East

South

North is missing due to broken flash/too dark   I'll have to try earlier in the morning to get one.   Until then, imagine the dark green stuff growin on the east side  :)
