Hello Gang!

I have found it fairly difficult to locate many places to post
my information to do some sawing in the Katrina damage areas.

Here are some useful websites:

Does anyone have some other phone numbers,  websites, etc.
to help sawyers hook-up?

A guy told me the other day that they are begging for mills in Southwest Louisiana.  I can probaby get you a number.
Louisiana Country boy
homemade mill, 20 h.p. Honda & 4 h.p. for hydraulics.  8 hydraulic circuits, loads, clamps, rotates, etc.

I could imagine that, Highpockets.   I did get a call or two from the area.

One of them bought his own mill (understandable).    It turned out
that this land owner had been trying for a couple of months and had
experienced the "run around" from a couple of millers who never got
"round toit."  A few days after I had responded by e-mail, he bought.
Too bad, since he had done a great job of preparing his logs.  He even
e-mailed pictures.

The  other needs a complete logging operation, not just a miller.  He
has mainly hardwoods. No trees are readied for sawing.   Also, this
property owner wants to work on a share basis.  That's a tough sell
considering working in a tangled mess that a storm leaves;
and it's tough on a long-distance basis to contemplate transporting
green lumber, cants, or ties.  10,000 bd. ft. and you're about at a load.
If you were hauling pine, or could wait to haul air dried, maybe you could
come out.

I know very little about the sawing business as I am more interested in building them, etc.  The mill I built was for a friend who is a logger.  Of course he doesn't know anything about commercial sawing either.  One would think that with the devastation we had both in South east and South west La, there'd be a demand for lumber of most any quality.

I'll keep my ear to the ground and see what we can find.  Good luck.

I leave for Mississippi for a eight day trip at about 4 AM Monday - combo of paid work and volunteer work.  I will set up first for extended cutting for a logger, and then for a land developer. (I plan to spend about 60% of my time in MS until the good wood runs out - making repeated trips out there.)

This way I have two mills in two locations.

Comments?
