I was looking at the belsaw catalog looking for a few parts for a planer I just aquired and I saw where they have a drop in sanding drum for their 12" planers.  My question is,  is anyone using one and how do you like it?

thanks

I have a Grizzly 24" drum sander with 2 drums it works well but its slow. I have the drum sander for times I have wide glue ups that don't fit my 13" planer. If I could afford a good wide planer I wouln't have the drum sander.

My Woodmaster came with the sanding drum in it,I've run a few short boards through it just for kicks. It leaves a VERY good finish, but is slow, and any amount of stock removal would be sorta unrealistic imho-unless one was to use very agressive paper.

I have the WoodMaster 18" and have used the sander a lot on glued up
pannels. It is some what slow and you have to run the pannel threw the
sander 4 or 5 time befor you adjust the depth again. I have used 60grit
paper and it will remove a lot of wood and then i change to 80, 100 and
then 150. I bought the 25' rolls and that did give me some savings. Also
you need a good dust collector, i have a 2hp bellsaw collector and use a
5" pipe with a short 4" at the planer to the collector. If you use any big
equipment that makes a lot of chips place them as close to the collector
as possable.

I have the attachment for my RBI planer but never used it. I have a Delta 18"drum sander. It is slow and not ment for major wood removal.  I use it mainly for glue ups as it saves time sanding which I hate doing.  A dust collector is a must for a drum sander.

I have the drum sander attachment for my Woodmaster planer. The sander will remove a lot of material until the paper rips and is torn off the drum.  :(
Don't ask me how I know. ::)  I disliked the time necessary for changing over from planer and bought a dedicated  Woodmaster drum sander. It still is fairly slow but the paper is easier to change.

thanks for the information

I was thinking of using it for sanding Osage down to size.

Guess I'll ponder on it for awhile.
