Most photo editing software has a redeye reduction process. Its simply isolates the red and lets you adjust the hue, brightness and contrast.

Dang,
You can "reduce" it when you take the picture if you have the feature on your camera.  Most cameras have it now.

It flashes the flash twice.

Red eye is cause by recording the blood on the back of the eye ball onto the film or digital media.  By flashing twice,  the pupil closes on the first flash and the shutter operates synchronized with the second flash.  The view of the back of the eyeball (retina)  is diminished and the red eye isn't as noticeable.



Now that's funny!
