I got a small bit of pine firewood for camping this weekend, will it be a problem to use it because of the resins?  We'll be cooking over it, too.  Thanks

I've cooked over pine before....  let it get down to coals before you put your food over it....

the smoke doesn't leave a good flavor at all....  not to bad if your cooking in a pan or something, but

burgers and hotdogs will pick up the pine if its still smoking.  A hardwood would be better, but use

what ya got.

I prefer cooking over softwoods as they seem to have bigger coals that last longer than hardwood coals.  I find hard maple basically just disappears as it burns leaving nothing to cook over.
I think the main idea though is too make sure you are cooking only over coals and then what type of wood it is hardly matters.
