Could be anything!!!
A hint would help. ;)

A four sided moulder, another Planer, and ANOTHER saw mill :D

Frank_Pender

No new sawmll, not the new St Bernard, two are actual toys, one is an actual working ground moving machine, not the new log loader being built to pull behind the F450, not a new tin hat, nor a new Stihl,

No hand tools involved.   Again two of the items are real toys.  They both are the same item, one smaller than the other.    They are replicas of equipment used around sawmills.

I snuck over to Frank's last night and he's holding out on us, It's not three, but 4 new toys.  I took a couple of photos...

Close Dave, but no cupi doll.   :'(

They are not plastic toys, but puiter.   Again, used in the older sawmills from back in the forties, 50's and perhaps some 60's era mills.

One toy is still being used at the Hull Oaks Mill in Bellfountain, Oregon.  Some of you puter whizes might be able to find a picture of the toy if you can find the mill site.  I have refered the site to the Forum some time back. ;D

Most of the units I am speaking of use to run with a chain drive.  Just another hint.

Another: they were developed here in Dallas, if I am not mistaken. ???
Frank Pender

Frank_Pender

The person that developed the lifesize machines, at one time had been business partners with the Swindel family.

Another tidbit of trivia, is that the company making the machine use to purchase white lightening from a couple fellas I once knew (now passed on).   The made the thirst quenching liquid about 7 miles South of town during prohibition days.   The company provided the refreshment in order to keep some of the better machinests and such,  You might call it a fringe benefit or overtime pay. :)

The refreshement producers said, "You weren't really a moonshiner unless you had spent a night or three in the "Pink Pokie" ."

I hope it's this Helke stacker, it'd be something to see move on a hillside

Before the arrival of the forklift at North Coast sawmills the process of drying redwood and pine lumber involved lots of hand labor, placing lumber on stickers to air dry in square stacks up to 20 feet in height. The Helke stacker and many home-built versions thereof were designed to elevate the lumber from ground level to the top of the lumber stacks and also to aid when the stacks were broken down for the next step in the lumber finishing operation. A ground crew placed boards in the lugs of the elevating chain. The boards passed over the top of the frame and were removed by the sticking crew on the opposite side of the stacker. When the lumber was dry the stack was dismantled in a reverse operation.
This stacker came from the Louisiana Pacific sawmill in Covelo and dated from the old Crawford Lumber Company, which had operations throughout Mendocino County, including Covelo, Longvale, Ukiah and Potter Valley. Bill Windes and Theron Brown of Louisiana Pacific Corporation made arrangements for the donation of the stacker to Roots of Motive Power in 1998.

I do have a well driver, David, but not that big.   Mine was used off the backend of duce and a half rigs in the military.

Yep, David and Paul you both win.   8) 8) 8) 8)

They were called a number of things, among them, gitteney, straddle carrier, Gerlinger staddle carrier.  It was the Gerlinger boys that deisgned the unit and had been in partnership with Swindels that began Willamette Industries Sawmill operation, here in Dallas, Oregon.

Where did you get that picture?   I want that machine! 8)

Just got in from LaPine , Oregon.  We drove 300 miles round trip to pick up two more toys, bigger.

   More guesses?

Hints:  It is a John Deere, late 40's, early 50's,  2 banger, Orininally built by Lyndiman (sp.),

second big toy: smaller garden "tractor",  this model has  a three point system, motor is a Wisconsin, probably 15 horse not sure yet,  Blue in color,  rope start, (yuck),

Third small toy is a replica of the John Deere
Frank Pender

Frank_Pender

The two straddle carriers came with the original boxes.

The larger of the two has the number of the unit printed on the box: #51

The smaller of an exact replica as well and in its original box.
Frank Pender

Frank_Pender

Well, I had to bring this thread back up, as there wre no guesses for the big toy.  It is a 1953 John Deere 40 dozer. 8)

Nice find, and it looks to be in good condition.
Is that one a 3 or a 5 roller on the track carriage?  I use to have a 420C of the same era ('58), except it didn't have the Deere blade with it. It had a fabricated canopy and not original loader.  It was 5 roller.

You know, Beenthere, I haven't even looked at the number of rollers.  I will do that after lunch in a bit.  Yes it is in great shape.  I am going to pressure wash it this weekend and get it ready for a new, original paint job later this winter. :)

Or, the boss would did it for you, Jeff. :D

The bottom picture is a 12' x 54" Douglas Fir from earlier this Summer.

The upper is the smaller of the two straddle carriers.  You can see the price on the box was originally $3.95.  When I do not know for sure.  I suspect in the early '50s some time.

Good pics Frank.I think I recognise that place  :)

Now for your homework assignment you will have to actually post a pic from your gallery  :D
