I have search for what to put on ban blades after  finish sawing and
found where some use brushes to help clean there blades. What is the
most use oil or cleaner use to keep the blades from rusting ? I have a
box of blades that Herold sent me and some are rusty. I want to clean
them befor i have them rewelded for our mill. I plan on making a blade
holder of some kind to help me clean them, any help on making one would
be appicative.

Try a wire wheel on a motor. WE have used sprey "Pam". Works well. Those blades sat in the shed for a long time. Fingerprints are the biggest culprit, from sweating and folding blades.

Pam works well when sawing also. GET 4-5 CUTS WITH A LITTLE BIT-o-SPRAY ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BLADE.

Harold.... my X's name was "PAM".... Like the commerical says " Nothing sticks to Pam" :D :)
just another beaver with a chainsaw &  it's never so bad that it couldn't get worse.

I use oven cleaner to clean blades and wipe them down with ATF to keep them clean.   I use a course steel wool pad and some oven cleaner and rub on the blade and they will shine like a new nickel.  The cheap stuff works good and I buy it from Freds.  One can will clean 10 blades.

Thanks guy for the info. I am going to put two pegs on the back wall
of my shop to hang the blade, git some oven cleaner and go to town.
i remember i have some PS oil that came from the BG co. Will use it to
oil the blade after cleaning. Then off the the lenox co to have them
shorten to fit the Norwood mill.

I was told by the folks that I purchased my Oscar 36 from, that any type of material that was petroleum related will ruin the tires on the wheels.   So, it must be Pam that you use when you shut down the mill, to keep it from getting rusty? ???

Who you directing the message to, Frank ???

If it's me, you are correct. Any petroleum product will mess up the surface of the tires. Pam is not petroleum, that I know of, but, we live 3 miles from the Ocean, and everything around here gets a coat of rust from the salt in the air.

We hose down the mill every day we saw, before covering the engine and control box.   The blades will rust, but, after a decent cut through the log, they shine right back up. The Suffolk blades I sent Sawwood, will rust quickly. That's part of the reason I quit using them.

my band always rusts up while it's sitting on the saw, i just saw with it anyway, I figure if I get cut with that thing running, tetanus is only my second concern :)

but yeah, it cleans right up after a cut or two, what's the problem with a bit of rust?

He may be ashamed of having them rusty blades welded by a shop  ::) ::)

I figure a very light grinding or wire brushing at the joint is all that's needed, for a good weld.  ;) :)

Ok guys i will not use the oil to keep the blades from rust. Thanks for
the info on oil hurting the rubber tires on the mill. Guess i will just not
let the rust bug me.

A "little" oil will not be a problem. As soon as you start to saw, the dust will absorb what oil there is. I was referring to when you take used blades off, wipe them clean and use a light coating of something to keep them coated.

*RATFLMAO* :D :D :D

I use to buy 30 a time.
Testing new type of blades I need 10 or more. Square iron tubes are OK to saw but the bearings on pole tops are nasty to the blades! There was no single tooth left last time................. :D
Sawed GLASS for the first time yesterday. There was an old bottle dropped into an old cherry tree.

Why don't you call Woodmizer and find out what they are using? They definitely have some type of an oily film on them when you get them from them.
