I have a 48" diameter red oak log about 20' that is down in GR.  I'm looking to get it cut up as soon as possible.  Do you have a portable saw mill that could handle a 48"?  Let me know if you're interested.
Eric

Jeff

Sounds like a job for a swing mill.  Thats a lot of work for Furbys mill. The log would have to be quartered, but depending on the wood, might be well worth it.  Not sure what size a mobile dimension can cut, Oakimac has one.

Yup a LOT of work!
If it was just a bit smaller........
And I can't make the 20' mark either. :-\
We could quarter it if we need to.

Hey Oakie, any interest?

Jeff

Do we have a michigan member with a lucas or Peterson?   Man, if this would have been a month ago Captain was in Flint with his Peterson looking for something to cut up :D.

I'm wondering if Hawby might wanna give it a try ???

Redoak, any chance you are just outside GR on the West side?

oakiemac

Yes, I talked with redoak last night.
Good talking with you Eric. I could easily handle the size, it is just the matter of taking my bobcat and mill up to GR. It takes about an hour and half from my house and I would have to make two trips.

Eric, one option would be if you could find a 3/4 ton truck and trailer that can haul 7000lbs then you could come down and load the bobcat onto your trailer then I take the mill up there. It would be a pain for you, but it is an option.

I agree a swing blade or large chain saw mill would be just the ticket.

Furby, he called Hawby yesterday but ken can only cut up to 42" on his mill.

DanG!
That's two logs in the last week an Alaskan would be good for!
Haven't had time or $ to finish mine yet, and Stump Jumper has a nice W Pine.

Redoak, I'm sending you an IM.

Furby

The toolbox is showing a 48"x20' Red Oak to weigh in just over 16,000 pounds.  :o

I KNEW I needed a swinger as well as a bandmill!

oakiemac

I would love to have a small swing blade for cases such as this. Also, there a lot of big gnarly stumps and other "trash" logs that you could get a lot of really nice lumber from.

Furby, If you find a good cheap used one let me know-we could go 50/50 and share it.
